Lauren Walker is a Level 4 Cardiac Rehabilitation and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Exercise Specialist. She worked in Phase 3 (early cardiac Rehab with the NHS) for 10 years and has been qualified since 2005 in Phase 4 (exercise for life). She is also a qualified Pilates, Gym and Circuits Instructor.

All Intensity Levels - Various 2 & 4 Options

Each exercise follows the theme 2&4. Some are 2 slow and 4 fast, others are 2 on one side and 4 alternate and others are 2 of one exercise and 4 of another.

There are no set timings and we practice each exercise in the warm-up so you are ready to perform each one during the class.

I explain how to make each exercise easier or harder so you can add weights, bend your knees, jump around or do bigger or smaller movements to suit your level.

Try and choose the level that gets you to RPE 12-13 and no more than RPE 14.

Mini-Strength - Two Combos

The first combo is arm-based; there are 8 exercises, you complete 5 reps of each exercise, and we do 2 circuits. The second combo is leg-based; there are 8 exercises, and you complete 5 reps on one side of each exercise before changing to the other leg. Then you repeat both sides for a 2nd circuit.

Try holding heavier weights to benefit from the few repetitions of each exercise.

HIIT 3 - Low-Volume High-Intensity Interval Training

This follows the 1 minute on and 1 minute rest format, with 10 exercises in total. Adjust your version of the exercises if you cannot jump or bounce.

Try and exercise around RPE 14-17 (I get to RPE 16 on the last exercise!) This means you will be hot, sweaty, and breathless, and you will feel your muscles working. Make sure your rest has as little movement in it; just walking around and having a drink is enough.

I use weights for some of the exercises. Keep them light, as you do not want your movements to be slowed down by them.

Circuit - 8 Exercises and 3 Circuits!

You will spend 1 minute at each exercise with 15 seconds rest. The exercises mix arm and leg movements to give you the best workout you can. You will be encouraged to hold weights for some of the exercises, and do not be afraid to challenge yourself on at least one of the circuits.

Keep an eye on your RPE as some exercises will work you at a higher level than others.

Pyramid - 1xPyramid With a Mix of Arms & Legs

I hold my medium weights throughout the class, but you may wish to change weights throughout or not hold any at all.

There is only 1 pyramid in this class, so each exercise uses your arms and legs. It will feel easier at the start, so do not put too much effort in at the beginning, as you will be working harder by the end.

If you feel you need to stop at the top of the pyramid, then skip the video to the cool-down at the end; otherwise, please complete the pyramid on both the way up and down.

Mix-It-Up - A Little Bit of Everything

Starting with a cardiovascular section, you can choose to do it with a non-stop feel or take breaks between the exercises as I demonstrate.

The second section is weights-based, but we will not do too many repetitions of any of the exercises.

A little bit of balance comes next, and if you need a chair for support, have it near you.

Finally, if you want to join in, there is a bit of relaxation, so get comfortable in a chair or lie on the floor.

Non-Stop Exercise - Small Combinations & Repeaters

Almost from the very beginning of the class, your feet will be moving, and they will not stop until the very last section of leg stretches.

Each exercise will transition into the next, and there are a couple where you will combine two exercises together for a short combination. I have also added in some repeater moves if you would rather perform those than keep to alternate sides.
