Olá! Let me introduce myself to the new followers and remind the old ones about myself.
💁🏻‍♀️So, I’m Mia, 41 years old. I live in a small touristic place in Central Portugal, where we moved a couple of years ago. 

👩🏻‍💻In the past I spent 20 years working for international brands as a Head of Marketing and eCommerce. During 4 years teached students at the Higher School of Economics and even worked as a part-time eCommerce consultant for ITC projects (International Trade Center of United Nations). Now we run a small family business of Legal Can🌿abis products, handmade souvenirs and fun T-shirts, designed by my partner in crime - Eka Gadelia. She’s doing the most jobs related to product supplies and a million other things. I am in charge of all marketing activities. And honestly, last year was full of challenges for me as a specialist.

🤦🏻‍♀️Running a small business is absolutely not the same as managing projects in big companies
🤦🏻‍♀️Small Business Marketing Budget is not even 10% of income
🤦🏻‍♀️The industry of Legal 🌿 is still restricted to be promoted online. And this is the biggest challenge I can’t deal with yet
🤦🏻‍♀️Lack of assistance. You can’t afford onsite/outsource staff and sometimes you just don’t do all you want to implement. For example, our webshop. I’ve did it via Shopify, but can’t deal with some filters and checkout, so it looks a bit weird. I would like to finish it this year, but there’s a long list, what we have to do 😁Anyway, I've totally updated my skills and learned a lot of new tools for our small business. It was tricky, but interesting and exciting. Honestly, I had no time to share most of my thoughts about that. And I guess, it wasn’t a time. 

💁🏻‍♀️Now, more or less I see the picture of Portuguese eCommerce, marketing tools for small retail business and can assure you, this year will be much more interesting both for retailers and for customers.

5 KEY TRENDS in DIGITAL MARKETING in 2024 in EUROPE 
Let’s watch the main trends in digital marketing in Europe for this 2024 year. As soon, I live and work in Portugal, our local trends are the key point of my small research: 

1️⃣AI-DRIVEN PERSONALIZATION. Last year Artificial Intelligence (AI) became the backbone of personalized marketing strategies. Here, in Portugal and all over the world, companies are using AI to analyze and predict user behavior and deliver tailor-made content. It is a must-have for big datas and a good-to-have for small ones, as well. 

2️⃣SUSTAINABLE MARKETING PRACTICES. Reading the latest reports of global climate changes published by WorldEconomicForum, you are really going to think how our dear marketing affects the world: tones of paper, giveaways and servers… Most consumers are becoming more conscious of sustainability. And here in Portugal, we see it very clearly. Most of the services are digital. 

3️⃣VIDEO CONTENT DOMINANCE. Here, in Portugal, as in the rest of Europe, the popularity of video on social media and websites continues to soar. Reels, Shorts, live streams and interactive content are gaining traction. I’m going to post a few really cool  interactive content samples in the near future. So, don’t miss it!

4️⃣EPHEMERAL CONTENT. If you've never heard of it’s ok. But I bet  that you know it 100%! This is a right now activity in Social Media, which lasts no longer than 24 hours. Like Stories, where the brand can create some sense of urgency “it happens right now” or exclusivity “only friends list can see it”. Ephemeral content is very popular in Portugal and you can see a lot of instagram accounts with a few posts and really strong “Stories” activities. 

5️⃣TRUE MESSAGE. There’s a lot of AI in marketing. But in Portugal people love small-talks. None of the ideal AI BOT created ads gonna work here. Use AI for datas, analytics, personalization and even content creation. But don’t forget your main message to your customers. If you sell the shoes, show the real ones and use the real humans reviews. 
I think all 5 are gonna work for the rest of the EU and the US as well. Do you want something to add here?

Trabalhador Independente means an Individual person, which is providing some kind work or service.

For example, it might be:
👩🏻‍💻 A remote specialist, like designer or IT developer
💅🏻 Beauty master at his/her own salon
✂️ Different kind of Atelier
🏪 Even a small store (online or offline)

Key word here is - one person in charge of everything.

You can easily register it via PORTAL DAS FINANÇAS. All you need is
your Cartão de Cidadão and Chave Móvel Digital. And your business is ready to start in a few hours.

If you don’t have a Portuguese passport yet, you have to ask a lawyer (or some accountants also do it) to register your business.

You have to be prepared to choose proper kind of business (CAE and CIRS).

And you’ll need an accountant to help you choose the type of accounting and show you, how to work with “recibos”. After, you’ll need it just once a year to help you with annual declaration.

During the year you just make a FATURA-RECIBOs and that’s all.

1️⃣ The first step is to register your business.

There are different company type for small and middle-sized business:

▶️ Trabalhador independente
▶️ Sociedade Unipessoal LDA
▶️ Sociedade Por Quotas LDA
▶️ Sociedade Anonima S.A.
▶️ Sociedade Aberta

➡️ In my next posts I’ll give you the explanation of all these company types.

😉Spoiler: you can do all registration by your own, but better to have an advisor, which will guide you with company differences.
I’ve spent quite a much time and money, until we finally started a business. Talked to 4 lawyers and 3 accountants, read a lot to find our strategy.

WHY I REMOVED THOUSANDS OF FOLLOWERS FROM MY INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT?🔻It is not a secret, it takes too long to get 10K followers, even 1K. You have to spend a lot of time on content, promotion and money, as well. Digital marketing grows too fast and there’s always some new ways. Some of them become a classic and rest we’ll forget in a season. So, I used all type of promotions and digital marketing ways to get 10k followers.
I was like a crazy and this number was my goal in 2020 and 2021. So, I’ve mixed classic strategy «content + paid promotion», lives with interesting persons and «hot» subjects.

It worked well and gave me x2 organic followers and a lot of clients. This account was more about my job as an international eCommerce manager and consultant.

🎧 I’ve listened for audio version during the housework and as soon I kept my hands busy I wasn’t able to clap 👏 anytime the voice was telling the things I totally agree with.

It is hard to concentrate in a crowded place for a persons like me. I really had a lot of overtimes, when I used to work at office and did all strategy and analysis work after everyone was gone. In an empty office. Yeah. Or at home in the midnights 👩🏻‍💻That’s why I choose remote or hybrid now.

And there’s a lot of useful information for team leads and managers in this book. Honestly, the main goal of your teams work is a measurable result based on KPI. If you understand your colleagues better, you’ll get brilliant results.

I asked myself: How I, being a 💯 introvert worked in marketing teams so many years? More deeply I think about it, more and more get one conclusion: marketing is more about datas and analytics. Expression of branding and Image is just a picture, but even creatives has to be measured to choose the most profitable ones 💁🏻‍♀️
