We have now been home for one week. It feels strange after one and a half years of travelling. We took it easy, unpacked the car, and slowly got used to being back in a house again.
But that does not mean we have nothing to do. If you saw our most recent video from the BFGoodrich event, you already know our new plans. But we will share a bit more in detail.
In April, the Hilux will go on the boat to North America. Before that happens, the Hilux needs a full preparation. Here are some of the main upgrades we will do:
- A completely new interior in the Alu-Cab camper - New Alu-Cab accessories - New lighting from Laser Lamps - Probably a diesel heater, built internally - And most likely a heavy-duty clutch
We will of course film everything and keep you up to date through the whole process. Once all that is done, in mid-April the Hilux will be shipped RoRo from Antwerp to Halifax, Canada.
We will fly directly from Amsterdam to Halifax with Lewie on WestJet. We chose this flight because it is the shortest and the easiest for him. Schiphol is only 30 minutes from our home, so this will be the least stressful option.
From Halifax we will drive all the way to the west coast of Canada, spending a lot of time in British Columbia, Vancouver, and Vancouver Island. Then we will go up to the Yukon, and from there into Alaska.
After that, we will start driving down again through the United States — Washington State, Montana, Idaho, Oregon, Utah, Nevada… and all the beautiful places in between — until we reach Mexico.
And after Mexico? We don’t know yet. Maybe we will continue all the way down the Pan-American Highway, maybe we will return home. Time will tell.
For now, it feels good to be home, to prepare everything properly, and to get ready for what will probably be our biggest adventure so far.
We just finished two weeks of exploring Iceland with the Hilux. All I can say for now is that it was wild, intense, and very different from what we expected. Think snowstorms, F-roads, black deserts, and maybe also a few things that were not so great…
But I don’t want to spoil too much yet. Our full Iceland film will drop next week (or the week after), and in that one we’ll share everything — the good, the bad, and all the surprises in between.

After weeks of exploring the wild Carpathians, remote villages and some of the best off-road tracks in Europe, we can finally share our Romania adventure with you:
We need all the support we can get, so if you have a moment, please give the video a like and leave a comment to tell us what you think. It really helps us a lot and it also helps us to make the next video just a little bit better.
We just had one of the most unforgettable off-road adventures in Romania so far. We were taking a pretty tricky route up the mountains near the Transalpina: lots of rocks, lots of climbing, but as always, the Hilux handled it very well.
Then, suddenly, the track was blocked by a huge fallen tree.
Two men were already there, sawing it up. Naturally, we stopped and started chatting (one of our favourite things about Romania – people are always up for a chat). And before we knew it, one of them invited us for food with a local farmer just a bit further up the track.
Now, if there’s one thing we’ve learned from years of overlanding, it’s this: always say yes to unexpected invitations.
And wow, are we glad we did.
That afternoon, we ended up spending the evening high up in the mountains at a shepherd’s hut. Sheep everywhere, wood smoke, wild dogs barking, and a small wooden cabin.
We had to leave Lewie in the car because the place was guarded by ten enormous Carpathian sheepdogs. Not exactly Labrador-friendly.
We helped milk the sheep, watched them make fresh local cheese, and sat down for a proper Romanian dinner with the whole crew including, of course, the obligatory homemade moonshine shots.
It’s moments like these that make us fall in love with travel all over again.
And honestly? We said it in the last post, but now we’re sure: Romania is the best overland destination in Europe right now. Off-road freedom, wild camping, amazing people, and stories at every turn.
We were really looking forward to Poland. We thought it would be the perfect warm-up before heading into the Carpathians. But to be honest… it turned out to be a bit of a letdown.
Off-roading in Poland is quite restricted, especially in the mountain regions. And we quickly discovered that dogs aren't allowed in most national parks. Which meant poor Lewie had to miss out on all the good spots. So after a few days of trying, we made the call: let’s skip ahead to Romania.
And honestly, that was the best decision we’ve made in a long time.
We’ve only been here for four days, but we’ve already had some of the best off-road adventures of the past year. Romania gives us that rare feeling of freedom again — like we’re truly overlanding, exploring, finding our own way.
In Scandinavia everything is so organized and regulated. Beautiful, sure, but… safe. Here in Romania? It’s wild. It’s muddy. It’s raw. We’ve already tackled some seriously gnarly tracks, crawled through deep ruts, and powered through thick, sticky mud.
We’re starting to think Romania might just be our favorite overland destination in Europe.
The film we’re making here is shaping up to be something special. And we’re pretty sure it’s going to convince you too — Romania is still raw, still real, and if you love that sense of true adventure, you need to come here soon.

Update from the road – Hello Romania!
