They were still very far away from their base camp, and by then, they had also already completely run out of drinking water. As such, if they didn't get down the mountain fast, they would soon die from hypothermia and dehydration.
Refusing to give up however, the two began to slowly inch their way down, with the injured man relying heavily on his partner for help. But before long, this partner was forced to make an impossible choice. He could either stay with his friend and likely die with him. Or, he could cut the rope connecting the two of them, leaving his friend to die to save his own life. And the resulting story would end up as one of the most UNLIKELY survival stories in history...
