Speak Japanese Naturally

This channel is designed for Japanese beginners.
You can learn through walk-and-talk videos where you listen to explanations in Japanese while enjoying views of Japanese scenery, as well as tips on how to study Japanese.

I really want to help Japanese learners speak more fluently.
That’s why I created a course to help you improve your pronunciation, rhythm, pitch accent, and intonation.
If you feel you need more confidence when speaking with Japanese people, please check out my subscription course:

I’d be happy to see you there, too!

In this video, I’d like you to listen to the way people in their 40s and 50s speak casual Japanese, or tameguchi.
Tameguchi is a way of speaking that doesn’t use polite forms like desu or masu. It’s usually used when talking with close friends of your age, or family members.
So, it’s not something you use with just anyone—for example, you wouldn’t use it in a store or with strangers.

But I thought it might be helpful for your listening practice to know what tameguchi sounds like in real life.
So, I recorded a conversation with my husband using tameguchi.

I’d say our tameguchi sounds age-appropriate and grounded—no trendy slang or anything like that.
It’s just how people in their 40s or 50s typically talk, and I hope that gives you a good example to listen to.

The theme is: “Is Japan too strict about time?”

わびさび、しょしん、はらはちぶ、
聞いたことがある人も多いと思います。

ただ、海外で使われている意味と、日本での意味と、ちょっとちがっているような気もします。
どんなふうにちがうのか?
ぜひこのエピソードで聞いてみてください😄

漢字にはふりがな、また英語の字幕つきです。

You may have heard words like wabi-sabi, shoshin, or hara hachi bu.

But the way these words are used abroad sometimes feels a little different from how they’re understood in Japan.
So how are they different?
Find out in this episode! 😄

Kanji are shown with furigana, and English subtitles are included.

I made a few changes to the subtitles in today’s video.(Again…!😳)

I think they’re a bit easier to read now.

Ken-san from けんさんおかえり helped me!

みなさん、こんにちは
I’d love to get your opinion on something. 😊

A while ago, some people mentioned that the subtitles were hard to read —so I added one.
But recently, a few people told me they actually prefer subtitles without the background.

I’d really like to know what you think.
Which one feels easier for you to read?

どの字幕(じまく)がよみやすいですか?
