Rant time… Usually I don’t shoot down different interpretations of my lyrics, I’m glad people are interested in them in the first place, but a recent one cut a little too deep. In the song “Never let the Bastards Grind You Down” there’s this lyric:

“And when the darkness blinds you
There’s a still a light to find you
Never let the bastards grind you down”

The commenter in question insinuated it to fit his own biases, specifically against the transgender community (among other things) and well if people want to do so with my lyrics, I guess that’s their prerogative. But here’s the real story:

When my father was dying of ALS, I confessed to him that with all going on, my entire life felt like it was shrouded in darkness. In one of his last bits of fatherly advice, he said “There is always light.” Even the title of the song was something he said all the time. Nothing to do with transphobia or some far right propaganda, just an epitaph from the mqn who helped shape my world view.

So that’s the story. If ya’ll want to interpret the song in different ways, even I’ll confess the song has multiple meanings, that’s cool, but do me a favor and keep any discriminatory comments as far away from my music as possible.

Thank you.

I am celebrating my (insert age here) #Birthday on 10/9 at The Bitter End. I’ll be performing #Elements in its entirety and some tracks from the upcoming album. Come through if you’re in NYC that night!

Damn! #RIPRickDavies of #Supertramp. I just did a review of #BreakfastinAmerica. Despite me giving the album a spotted fish, there is no doubt that Rick was a supremely talented musician and songwriter, who penned Bloody Well Right, Goodbye Stranger, and my essential track from BIA, Gone Hollywood. Thanks for the great music Rick.

PSA: If you copy and paste the exact same message responding to EVERY comment on a thread, you WILL get blocked by me. Don't write it on multiple videos or posts either. Write the comment one time, I will probably see it even if I don't respond to it.
That goes for you BTS fans!

Yes I watched KPop Demon Hunters. I'll let you guess what I thought of it and the soundtrack... or rather what I think it sounds like... see what I did there?

I have a lot of followers who are #PinkFloyd fans. If you are a Floyd fan, do you also like #TheBeatles? Don’t vote if you’re not a Floyd fan.

When people ask me "What modern rock do you listen to?" The Pretty Reckless is frequently an answer. Definitely looking forward to hearing their next album.
