Knowledge and education are important. But you DON'T have to have multiple PhD's in mathematics, computer science, and statistics -- as well as working knowledge of C++, Java, Python, and Hadoop in order to get MOST data science jobs.

On this channel, I want to help make both getting a data science job and acquiring the skills and thought processes you need a lot simpler and easier than that. I post here at least once a week with videos on: my own experiences in data science, on what's happening in the data science industry, practical applied statistics tutorials, R programming tutorials, and explain concepts so that you can understand them and use them! (Whether that's in the job you have now, the job you're trying to get, or for entertainment.)

Hello all,

Apologies for lack of videos in the last few weeks. Part of the reason for that is an endeavor I've been working on that I wanted to share. I have partnered with O'Reilly Media and will be running a 4 hour live crash course from 8a-12p EST on May 9 on the Google Cloud Professional Machine Learning Exam.

If you are interested in this, you can register! And the best part is, it's (probably) free.

If you go to oreilly.com, you can sign up for monthly or annual memberships. However, they also offer free trials for 10 days. So if you're interested in seeing my course and haven't done this previously, you can see my course completely free as long as you sign up within 10 days of May 9.

Apart from that, I've had a bit of personal travel and will be attending Open Data Science Conference East in Boston, MA next week. I've got some content lined up and should have a number of regular videos coming out once we get into May.

Hello all. What are some problems, challenges, or concerns you're currently experiencing in the data analytics/science/engineering space? Comment down below. As we move into Q2 of this year, would like to make some more focused content to solve specific problems.

Hello all -

I had a video that was going to go up tomorrow, but I caught myself not liking the message and takeaways from a couple pieces of it. So I'm just going to re-record a few of the clips. All that to say, that's going to push the video out to the weekend. It'll cover my take on the concern over AI displacing jobs and was a ton of fun to make.

In the meantime, looking to the next video after that, all of the following are ideas I've been kicking around, but I'd like to focus and create some priorities, not to mention get a better feel for what the audience wants to see. Which of the following topics would you most like to see?

Hello all,

It's been a little while! I hope you all have been enjoying this random forest known as life since last I've communicated on here.

All horrible jokes aside, I will have a new video out in the next couple days or so. Through your comments and other things I have been reading and hearing, I am sensing some anxiety out there about the state of the data science job market in 2021 and beyond. Anaconda did a large survey on this per their usual annual rhythm, and I thought it would be a great way to kick start back off the next leg of my YouTube journey here as well as to hopefully calm some of your fears.

To give a bit of an update, I've been a bit busy over the last couple months with some other projects. So I am not sure if immediately I can come back to the two video per week rhythm I was going at prior to taking a break here. Additionally the next few videos you see from me will probably be a little less scripted and feature my video in the corner while I comment on various things on-screen. But all in all, I'll be interested to see how you all like that video style, and I'm excited to provide some insight and perspectives that will hopefully be resourceful to you!

Lastly, I'm excited to see more of you here. Welcome aboard.

Hello all,

I would like to reach out to the community here with an update and to address a couple things.

The first is my channel's recent benchmark at 10K subscribers. Thank you so much to those of you who tune in to watch my content to help break into the data science field, grow your skills in the field, get that first job, or, of course, learn R. Creating this community, I must say, is one of the proudest things I've done personally or professionally, and it truly is an amazing thing reading the comments that a video or playlist has helped people and/or provided motivation!

That being said, as some of you may have noticed, I haven't been uploading as frequently over the last month or two. The first and biggest reason is the workload at my day job having greatly increased in the last few weeks. I'm currently having to support several shorter-term initiatives at the same time, and it's resulting in some very long weeks. But secondly, I've been experiencing some creative block. I think, if I am being candid, I had hoped for somewhat higher viewership and engagement on some of my content from a few months ago when uploads were more frequent and consistent. However, the beauty of YouTube is that it does allow for rapid changing, experimentation and incorporation of ideas from your audience, complete with robust analytics. But that does amount to a lot of energy, creativity, and time that I just truly haven't really been able to muster as of late.

I guess you could say that, at least as of today, I'm a little burnt out. And I'm not one to force things and push for quantity over quality.

NONE of that to say that I'm quitting the channel. I'm proud of this community and want everyone in it to be successful. I will be on vacation off the grid during the second two weeks of May, and then I plan to come back and re-invest some of my time towards planning and some of the behind-the-scenes stuff that needs to be done with any YouTube content creator. That will include figuring out sustainable ways to produce more content, consistently on a timely schedule without any loss to quality. I think with just a little bit of a break - maybe a month or two or so - I'm going to be able to return to the channel and make it bigger and even better than before.

How you can help in the meantime would really be to let me know in detail or in a list - content ideas that you would like to see, or even the instances in which my content has been the most helpful or entertaining to you. That way I know what to expand upon. You can always email me at richardondata [at] gmail [dot] com. Thanks for understanding and you'll hear from me again soon!
