UN SLAMS Guinea’s Pardon of Moussa Dadis Camara – Calls for Immediate Reversal!

The United Nations Human Rights Office has strongly condemned the presidential pardon granted to former Guinean leader Moussa Dadis Camara by Transitional President Mamadi Doumbouya. Camara, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison for crimes against humanity over the September 28, 2009 massacre, was pardoned on March 28, 2025.

The UN is now demanding the immediate cancellation of the pardon, calling it a “disregard” for the rights of victims and a violation of international justice standards. UN spokesperson Seif Magango warns that this move threatens the rule of law and undermines Guinea’s judicial process.

Is this pardon justice denied for the victims?
Should the international community step in?

President Traoré Builds Boreholes for Forgotten Women!
When President Ibrahim Traoré visited the women of this community just days before International Women’s Rights Day, their faces lit up with joy. They shared their struggles—limited access to water, challenges with irrigation, and the need for support to continue farming effectively. True to his character, Traoré didn’t just listen—he acted.

In the days that followed, construction began on a much-needed borehole. And now, here we are, standing beside one of those newly completed installations. Another borehole is already operational, and both are producing a strong, steady flow of water—enough to power continuous agricultural production. This is more than a promise kept. It’s a testament to a leader who walks the talk.

Today’s visit was more than ceremonial. It was part of a real plan—to secure the future of these women's farming efforts. Plans are underway to construct a protective fence around their fields and establish a sustainable irrigation network. This will ease the burden of manual watering and empower the women to focus more on expanding their production.

President Traoré’s vision is clear: support Burkinabè citizens at the grassroots—those who are determined to live with dignity and transform their communities. He sees these women—our mothers, sisters, and wives—not just as farmers, but as the pillars of our nation. Their strength, resilience, and unwavering commitment to development deserve every possible support.

This morning, he returned with members of his team to inspect the progress, offer direction, and make sure the community is involved in every step. Contractors have also been instructed to integrate local youth into the ongoing work—transferring skills and offering employment opportunities.

This is not just development—it is transformation, community-driven and people-powered. And it’s only the beginning. Very soon, we will return to see fields full of crops, worked by proud sons and daughters of Burkina Faso—proof that when the people and leadership unite, anything is possible. #IbrahimTraore #BurkinaFasoRising

SUGAR SHORTAGE HITS OUAGADOUGOU – CONSUMERS LEFT SCRAMBLING!

Burkinabè consumers are facing an unexpected crisis—SN SOSUCO sugar is nowhere to be found! Just days before the holy month of fasting for Muslims and Christians, many shoppers are running from store to store, desperately searching for sugar, a key ingredient in traditional fasting meals.
The government had promised that sugar would be available nationwide, but reality tells a different story. Shops in Ouagadougou are running out, traders are frustrated, and prices are skyrocketing!

WHAT'S HAPPENING?
Traders say they can’t sell at the government-set price of 800 CFA francs because they buy it at nearly the same price, leaving no room for profit.
Some shopkeepers have even been summoned by authorities for selling sugar at 900 CFA francs, despite barely making a profit.
Wholesalers are refusing to stock up, fearing losses and government crackdowns.
A local trader revealed the struggle:

“I’ve been searching all morning for SN SOSUCO sugar—just one packet—and I haven’t found any! It’s Ramadan, and people need sugar, but it’s impossible to get.”
Another shop owner, Baraka Daouda Gnégné, is also feeling the heat:
“We haven’t had SN SOSUCO sugar on the shelves for months, but demand is through the roof. People are desperate!”
Meanwhile, fasting communities are feeling the impact. Catholic Christian Junior Dabiré is worried about how this will affect religious traditions:

“Sugar is crucial during Lent and Ramadan. Without it, even traditional drinks like zoom-koom lose their taste. The authorities need to act fast!”

WHO’S TO BLAME? WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE?
Is this poor price regulation? Supply chain failure? Or greedy wholesalers withholding stock? One thing is clear—consumers are suffering, and the government must act fast to stabilize the situation before the crisis worsens!
What do you think? Should the government adjust the sugar price or take stronger action against wholesalers? Drop your thoughts in the comments!

Under the Presidency of Faso, the Council adopted a decree on the creation, attribution, organization and operation of the Burkinabe Atomic Energy Agency (ABEA). The Minister of State, Government Spokesperson, Jean Emmanuel OUEDRAOGO stated that the Head of State " clearly indicated that this achievement will help guarantee the energy independence of Burkina Faso, the industrialization of the country and facilitate access to electricity throughout the national territory."
On behalf of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Crafts, the Council adopted two reports. According to Minister Serge Gnaniodem PODA, the first report includes two decrees. Niger lifts immunity of deposed President Mohamed Bazoum
Niger's highest court has lifted the immunity of Mohamed Bazoum, the country's democratically elected president who was overthrown nearly a year ago by mutinous soldiers. This move allows the military junta to prosecute him for alleged high treason, according to his lawyer.

Since last summer's coup, Bazoum and his family have been under house arrest. The junta plans to prosecute him for "high treason" and undermining national security, initiating legal proceedings earlier this year to lift his immunity in a newly established State Court, now the highest judicial authority in Niger.

Before his ouster, Niger was a key security partner for the West in the Sahel region. However, the junta has expelled Western troops and sought Russian assistance. U.S. forces are set to leave by mid-September.

Human Rights Watch reports serious irregularities in the proceedings, including violations of Bazoum’s rights. His lawyer, Reed Brody, condemned the ruling as a "mockery" of justice. Bazoum’s lawyers have been unable to communicate with him since October, and the ECOWAS court has deemed his detention arbitrary, calling for his reinstatement.

Captain Ibrahim Traore Gets 5 Years Extension as he becomes President

Burkina Faso's military government has announced an extension of junta rule for another five years. Capt. Ibrahim Traoré, the current ruler, will also be eligible to contest in the next presidential election, according to the state broadcaster. Capt. Traoré, who seized power in a coup nearly two years ago, initially pledged to restore civilian government by July 1, 2023. However, Burkina Faso has now followed the example of neighboring Mali in extending military rule. The decision was made public on Saturday following a national consultation meeting in the capital, Ouagadougou. An amended charter, signed by Capt. Traoré, specifies that the new 60-month transition period will commence on July 2, 2023. The charter, as reported by Reuters, allows for the possibility of earlier elections if the security situation improves.

Burkina Faso has been under military control since January 2022, when Lt. Col. Paul-Henri Damiba overthrew President Roch Kaboré. Col. Damiba justified the coup by citing the previous government's failure to curb escalating militant Islamist violence. Since 2015, jihadist groups linked to Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State have conducted an insurgency that has resulted in thousands of deaths and millions of displacements.

In September 2022, Capt. Traoré ousted Col. Damiba, claiming the latter was also ineffective against the insurgency. Capt. Traoré initially promised to enhance security within "two to three months" and to restore civilian rule within 21 months. However, he has since emphasized that elections are not a priority until territory is regained from jihadist forces to ensure all citizens can participate in voting.

Under the new charter, traditional party quotas will be abolished, with "patriotism" being the sole criterion for selecting assembly deputies, according to AFP. Political parties were reportedly absent at the beginning of the national consultation meeting.

International organizations, including the European Union and the UN, have accused Burkina Faso of serious human rights abuses in its fight against Islamists, such as indiscriminate killings and forced disappearances of civilians.
