Nadav Art and Wood

Take a breath, pick up a knife, and join me on this beautiful journey of creating and everything around it💆🏽‍♂️🌳🪵🌱

While working on the detailing module from my video course several months ago, I found it quite challenging to comfortably hold the sloyd knife using only the tip, just like a pencil.

Wanting to make it as accessible and convenient as possible for anyone who watches the course, I looked for a quick, simple solution.

I used tape, first with the sticky side facing me, wrapping the blade and the top of the handle, exposing just the tip. Then, for comfort, I added some old sponge and finally wrapped it again with tape, this time closing and covering the sponge and any other sticky surfaces.

This small tool is so easy to make and makes the small sloyd knife much more suitable for detailing.

Honestly, I myself never used it before making this module. This is a small example showing the power of trying to teach someone else—dissecting your own craft, putting in the time and effort to make it simpler and more accessible, and just like that, your own technique and creative tools expand and develop.

I learned so much from making this course, and I truly appreciate this opportunity to dive into my own creative habits—asking how I can make them better.

All of this was possible thanks to those who joined the course and showed interest.
So I hope you enjoy it until now, and I thank you for giving me this chance to teach and learn at the same time☺️🙏🏾

I never expected the journey of making a course to be so immersive and full of growth in my own carving practice.

Before filming and editing each part of the course, I sat down—and with my left hand (my weaker hand)—began carving.
Each module had its own projects, and every time, I was surprised all over again.

So many techniques and motions that my strong hand knows intuitively… I was too quick to jump ahead, trying to teach my left hand movements that were far too complex.
But that’s exactly what made this practice so valuable. I had no choice but to return to the core basics and ask:
What should a hand with no previous experience learn first?

Suddenly, the learning process became slower, calmer—free from frustration.
And without even noticing, my weaker hand began to grow stronger.
It started learning the proper techniques—and truly understanding them.

This was a beautiful discovery. One that made me even more passionate about making the course valuable for anyone—no matter their background or experience.

In the pictures, I carve a cherry wood bowl with my left hand using a left-handed Mora 164, while writing the lessons for the third module.

No planning went into carving this spoon; the purpose was having a tool to breathe and get some peace and quiet.

The tool is not the spoon but the carving itself and the wood as a partner in this peaceful journey.

It taught me to trust the process and let my intuition and the soul of the wood lead the way.

And like that, I always end up with pieces that I truly love, that have the story of the wood inside them and my own story as well.

This small spoon is carved from plum wood and finished with walnut oil, and from now on it will aid me in my journey of ice cream eating🍦😋

Wood can tell stories only the hands can understand.

I’ve been creating and sharing here for almost 3 years now, always hoping to invite anyone who feels called to join my journey of creation.

For a long time I’ve wanted to give more—more of my passion, of the feeling I get when a sharp knife pierces through the wood.

It took time to figure out how, but I finally feel I have something big to share —not just inviting you into my journey, but inviting you to start your own.

I’ve been working on my biggest project yet: a complete beginner’s video course using simple, affordable tools and techniques that give you the freedom to carve limitless shapes and Ideas that comes to mind.

I just finished filming all the footage, and now have about 20+ hours to edit 😅

I’m pouring everything into making this course clear, valuable, and cozy to watch.

I hope to finish by the end of the month. Until then, you’re welcome to join the waiting list (link on my channel) for a nice launch discount (:

See you there!

*btw the spoon you see here is from the second module—carved from cherry wood with a cheap hardware store axe, a Mora 120 sloyd knife, and a Mora 164 hook knife.
