Do you think, if we realistically want to make the internet better for the world, we need to prioritize (among other things) the ability of online creators of all kinds to more easily reach new people, get feedback and appreciation from a sizable audience, and make a living off work they're passionate about?

If you're a chiptune musician, which music making interface do you prefer for writing chiptune with?

If you're a tracker musician: are the user interfaces of the current (non-mobile) options available for making music for the SID chip discouraging you from doing so?

Honestly, my biggest concern with AI is that it may discourage people from creating, interacting, and trusting on the internet out of fear that they won't be distinguishable from AI.

The only way I can think of responding is by encouraging people to not let AI take over their mind. Continue creating, sharing, and commenting, even if AI can do it too. Don't hesitate to put something out into the world because you think it's too similar to AI. On the other end, don't automatically assume someone's using AI, which sows mistrust and discourages creators. And even if someone is using AI, don't ridicule them or dismiss them and their work outright (though this may depend on the circumstances). In the absence of any authority to put our trust in AI, we can only trust each other by communicating and having faith in each other.

No matter how good these algorithms get, it matters that you made it yourself. Don't let that be taken from you. The only way we kill the internet is if we stop contributing to these platforms ourselves and fracture out of fear.

Would you be interested in tutorial videos on how to make SID oscilloscope views that look as good as mine with sidvis and Audacity?

If you're having some...thoughts about recent news, no matter what "side" you're on, I'd like to just say this:

It's valid to be afraid, to be angry, but please, don't give into fear.

Defend yourself and those you love if/when you need to, but in the meantime, demonizing and especially wishing hurt upon others isn't how we get through this in a productive way.

I'm probably gonna get a lot of heat for this, but I think it's worth considering: I don't think most on the "other side" are actually bad people.

It's easy to assume how others must think to make the decisions they do, but in reality, I believe it's a lot more complicated. The current media landscape thrives on people getting their own information about things from sources that are incentivized to leave out nuance and overdramatize it all.

My overall advice is to just keep on living life. Think about the actions you want to achieve, and take the steps to achieve them. Get away the demoralizing buzz of the 24/7 news cycle. Resist fearmongering about people and things you don't truly know. Focus on real, personal connections with others (I myself need to do this). And importantly, remember to focus on love rather than hate.

I'm not asking you to go out and associate with people you're uncomfortable with, or to accept harmful ideas or actions. Just, reconsider dismissing someone's worth based on what you think you understand.

We shall get through these times, and build a better world, together. The moment we lose faith in ourselves as people is when we've truly resigned ourselves to the worst outcomes.

Happy Halloween! But it's not only Halloween...
Today marks 10 years since Rolf R. Bakke published the first oscilloscope view made with SidWiz, a program he designed to create osc. views of SID music.

On this very special day, I'd like to announce a new tool I myself created to further improve both the quality and the process of making SID osc. views. You can download it and find further information about it here: www.github.com/acrouzet/sidvis.

I named it "sidvis", in honor of SidWiz, however it doesn't make osc. views itself. Rather, it's a batch script that records from a modified fork of the sidplayfp SID emulator, processes the recordings with ffmpeg, and then outputs .wav files that are designed to be used with the corrscope osc. view creator to easily create ultra clean and stable SID osc. views.

Below is the first osc. view made with sidvis, and I think it's a stark improvement over many SID osc. views made previously. Just compare this video with an osc. view I made of this same soundtrack 7 years ago: https://youtu.be/wz36JWHTk-A

I hope other people find this tool useful, and that it will help bring the joy of SID music to even more people in the future, like SidWiz did for me!

imagine a world where the commodore 65 was released. (yes this was a real idea and prototype by commodore, and it had 2 sid chips).
