If you're having some...thoughts about recent news, no matter what "side" you're on, I'd like to just say this:
It's valid to be afraid, to be angry, but please, don't give into fear.
Defend yourself and those you love if/when you need to, but in the meantime, demonizing and especially wishing hurt upon others isn't how we get through this in a productive way.
I'm probably gonna get a lot of heat for this, but I think it's worth considering: I don't think most on the "other side" are actually bad people.
It's easy to assume how others must think to make the decisions they do, but in reality, I believe it's a lot more complicated. The current media landscape thrives on people getting their own information about things from sources that are incentivized to leave out nuance and overdramatize it all.
My overall advice is to just keep on living life. Think about the actions you want to achieve, and take the steps to achieve them. Get away the demoralizing buzz of the 24/7 news cycle. Resist fearmongering about people and things you don't truly know. Focus on real, personal connections with others (I myself need to do this). And importantly, remember to focus on love rather than hate.
I'm not asking you to go out and associate with people you're uncomfortable with, or to accept harmful ideas or actions. Just, reconsider dismissing someone's worth based on what you think you understand.
We shall get through these times, and build a better world, together. The moment we lose faith in ourselves as people is when we've truly resigned ourselves to the worst outcomes.
