From Paraplegia to Movement — A Remarkable Recovery
This patient presented with a D12 spinal fracture and paraplegia (weakness in both lower limbs) due to severe spinal cord compression.
On arrival, the patient had no meaningful movement in the legs.
Timely surgical intervention was performed: ✔️ Vertebroplasty
✔️ Laminectomy (cord decompression)
✔️ Stabilization with fixation
The result?
➡️ Spinal cord successfully decompressed (see MRI comparison)
➡️ Recovery of ankle movements
➡️ Return of knee extension
➡️ Now able to sit independently
This is the power of early decompression and stabilization in spine trauma — giving patients a chance to regain function and dignity.
It was an incomplete injury, so with early intervention (not as early as should be), there is ongoing improvement in motor power. Incomplete spinal cord injury can still recover — with adequate decompression . A complete spinal cord injury usually does not show this kind of motor recovery. Incomplete injury → some neural pathways are preserved → potential for recovery
Complete injury → no preserved pathways → very limited or no motor recovery
⚠️ Do not ignore symptoms like weakness, numbness, or inability to walk after a fall or injury. Early treatment can change outcomes.

✨ Keyhole Spine Surgery (MIS TLIF) – Faster Recovery, Smaller Cuts ✨
This image shows the small incisions after Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (MIS TLIF)—a modern technique that allows us to treat serious spine problems with minimal tissue damage.
🔹 Smaller cuts (keyhole surgery)
🔹 Less muscle injury
🔹 Reduced blood loss
🔹 Faster recovery
🔹 Early mobilization
In selected patients with conditions like slipped disc, instability, or spondylolisthesis, this technique offers excellent outcomes with less pain compared to traditional open surgery.
💡 Most patients are able to sit, stand, and start walking much earlier than expected.
If you or your loved one is suffering from persistent back pain, leg pain, or nerve compression—don’t ignore it. Early evaluation can make a big difference.

Does spine surgery last forever? 🤔
A large nationwide study (3 lakh+ patients) shows:
🔹 Around 14% patients may need another surgery within 5 years
🔹 This risk increases to 18% after revision surgery
🔹 Some patients may later require fusion procedures
👉 What does this mean?
✔️ Spine conditions are dynamic, not static
✔️ Surgery is highly effective, but long-term follow-up is important
✔️ Proper patient selection and surgical planning makes all the difference
💡 The good news: Most patients still achieve excellent long-term relief.

Knee Pain se Pareshan? Walk karna mushkil ho gaya hai?
अब हर घुटने के दर्द का solution Total Knee Replacement नहीं होता ❌
👉 Knee Resurfacing with Medial Pivot Knee
एक advanced technique जो आपके knee को natural movement के करीब लाती है।
✅ Less bone removal
✅ More natural knee feel
✅ Faster recovery
✅ Better stability during walking
इस technique में हम पूरे knee को replace नहीं करते, बल्कि damaged surface को treat करते हैं — जिससे recovery तेज और movement ज्यादा natural रहता है.
💡 खासकर उन patients के लिए ideal जिनमें:
Early to moderate arthritis है
Active lifestyle maintain करना चाहते हैं
Natural knee feeling चाहते हैं
👨⚕️ सही patient selection सबसे ज़रूरी है — हर patient के लिए same surgery सही नहीं होती।

Many patients ignore back and leg pain thinking it is “just age-related” or temporary.
But sometimes, the problem is much more serious.
👉 This MRI shows severe lumbar spinal canal stenosis
– where the space for nerves becomes critically narrow.
🧠 What happens in severe stenosis?
Nerves get compressed continuously
Blood supply to nerves reduces
Over time, this can lead to permanent nerve damage
⚠️ Warning symptoms you should NOT ignore:
Pain radiating to both legs
Difficulty walking (need to sit frequently)
Numbness or tingling in legs
Weakness in feet
Loss of balance
In severe cases: bladder or bowel issues
⏳ Why early treatment matters:
If treated late, nerve damage may become irreversible
Even after surgery, full recovery may not happen
✅ Good news:
When treated at the right time:
Pain relief is excellent
Walking improves
Nerve recovery is much better
💡 Take-home message:
👉 Persistent leg pain or walking difficulty is NOT normal aging
👉 Early consultation can prevent permanent damage
If you or your family member has these symptoms, don’t delay evaluation.

Distal Femur Replacement for Periprosthetic Femur Fracture
Sometimes a fracture can occur around an existing knee replacement, especially in elderly patients with weak bones. This is called a Periprosthetic Femur Fracture.
In such situations, simply fixing the fracture with plates or screws may not be reliable because: • The bone is often osteoporotic
• The fracture is close to the knee implant
• The existing implant may already be loose
In these cases, Distal Femur Replacement (DFR) becomes an excellent solution.
What is Distal Femur Replacement?
In this procedure: ✔ The fractured distal femur bone is removed
✔ A special hinged knee prosthesis with a long stem replaces the damaged bone
✔ The implant provides immediate stability
Advantages of Distal Femur Replacement
• Early mobilization
• Immediate weight bearing in many patients
• Avoids prolonged bed rest
• Useful in elderly patients with weak bone
• Predictable functional recovery
Why Early Surgery Matters
Delayed treatment in such fractures can lead to: • Prolonged immobility
• Bed sores
• Lung complications
• Loss of independence
With modern implants, patients can often start walking much earlier compared to traditional fracture fixation.
📍 Case example:
This X-ray shows a Distal Femur Replacement performed for a periprosthetic femur fracture around a knee replacement. The long stem implant bypasses the weak bone and provides strong fixation.

What Can Happen If Spine Surgery Is Delayed? ⚠️
A real patient story for awareness
This patient had a spine fracture after a fall and came to us 4 weeks later.
At that time, surgery was advised because the spinal cord was at risk.
➡️ The patient refused surgery.
She returned 10 weeks after the injury — now with spastic paraplegia (severe weakness and stiffness of both legs).
📌 What changed during this delay?
Progressive collapse of the fractured vertebra
Increasing pressure on the spinal cord
Ongoing spinal cord damage, which can become irreversible if delayed too long
Treatment Done
Despite the delay, we proceeded with:
Spinal decompression
Vertebroplasty (to stabilize the fractured vertebra)
Pedicle screw fixation (to restore stability)
Current Status (2 weeks after surgery) 🌱
✅ Ankle movements have returned
✅ Early neurological recovery has started
🙏 We are hopeful for further improvement with time and rehabilitation
Key Message for Patients & Families
🛑 Spinal cord compression is time-sensitive
⏳ Delaying surgery can lead to:
Permanent weakness or paralysis
Loss of bladder/bowel control
Reduced chances of neurological recovery
✅ Early diagnosis and timely surgery can make the difference between walking and lifelong disability
📍 If you or your loved one has:
Spine fracture after a fall
Progressive weakness
Difficulty walking or stiffness in legs
👉 Seek spine specialist opinion early. Don’t wait for symptoms to worsen.

Medial Knee Arthritis (OA): When Partial Knee Replacement Is a Great Option 🦵✨
In patients with medial compartment osteoarthritis, a standing X-ray oftentogether with a valgus stress view helps us decide the best treatment.
👉 When the medial joint space is worn out
👉 And the lateral compartment opens well on valgus stress
👉 Ligaments are intact
✅ Partial (Unicompartmental) Knee Replacement becomes an excellent choice.
🔹 Smaller surgery
🔹 Faster recovery
🔹 More natural knee movement
🔹 Less blood loss
Right patient selection is the key to long-term success.
📍 Not every knee needs a total replacement.
