かつて聞いたことがある。
時の外、世界と世界の狭間に佇む旅館の話。
さまざまな時代の旅人たちが集まり、
誰も知らない星座の下で温かい飲み物をすする。

誰かを探している者。
目的を探している者。
皆、なぜか同じ十字路に辿り着くらしい。

鏡を失くした少女。
こだまする声を追う戦士。
いまだ指輪を探す灰色の旅人。
記憶と予言の狭間を歩く変異の狩人。
忘れられた過去の亡霊を背負う兵士。
居場所を求める孤独な狩人。

過去へ戻れる椅子がある喫茶店の話なら聞いたことがあるけれど、
時空そのものを縫い合わせる旅館があるなんて——
それはまったく別次元の話だ。

一体どうやってそんな場所を経営しているのだろう？
どんな通貨を受け取るというのか？

考えるだけで不思議になる。
このiPadの画面の向こうにも、
影と光と記憶が交錯する世界への扉が潜んでいるなんて。

I once heard a story about an inn—
hidden outside of time, between worlds.
Travelers gather there, from across eras,
sipping warm drinks beneath uncharted stars.

Some seek people.
Some, purpose.
But all end up at the same crossroads.

A girl who lost her mirror.
A warrior chasing an echo.
A grey pilgrim still searching for a ring.
A mutant hunting through memory and prophecy.
A soldier carrying ghosts of a forgotten past.
A hunter looking for a home.

I’ve heard of cafés where a single seat can take you back in time…
but an inn that weaves through timelines and realms?
That’s something else entirely.

How do they even run a place like that?
What currency do they accept?

And to think there are gateways beyond my iPad screen—
worlds wrapped in shadow, light, and memory.

せっかくケンタウロスの隣にいたので、この世界の人間とはどんな存在なのか、少し観察してみることにしました。この人は、笑っていなくても、なんとなく顔に微笑みの跡が残っているように見えました。

この土地でずっと農業をしてきたというその人は、回るシャベルのような農具こそ使っていましたが、それ以外に武器らしいものは持っていませんでした。もしかすると、かつてケンタウロスたちを攻撃した人々とは、まったく別の時代の人間なのかもしれません。

それでも、自分の種族がしてきた過去のことを、自分のことのように語るその姿には、どこか謙虚さを感じました。

ケンタウロスには、気候や土地を深く理解する古代からの知恵があるのだそうです。…古代からの知恵を知っているってことは、ケンタウロスって、もしかして歳を取らないのだろうか。

そういえば、「ケンタウロス」とばかり呼んでいたのですが、農業をしている人が名前を教えてくれました。
彼の名前は「エルウェン」とのこと。

つい種族名で呼んでしまうのは、私の悪い癖だ。

Since this farmer happened to be next to the centaur, I decided to take a moment to observe the human in this world too—just to get a sense of what they’re like. This man, even when he wasn’t smiling, it kind of looked like there was still a bit of a smile left on his face.

This man has spent his whole life taking care of this land. Other than a rotating shovel he used for farming, he didn’t seem to carry any weapons. Maybe the people who once attacked the centaurs lived in a completely different era than this farmer.

Still, the way he spoke about what humans did in the past—as if it were his own burden—felt surprisingly humble.

Apparently, centaurs carry ancient knowledge that helps them understand the land and the weather. If he knows things passed down from ancient times… does that mean centaurs don’t age?

By the way, I kept calling him “the centaur,” but the farmer eventually told me his name: Elowen.

I guess I have a bad habit of calling people by their kind, not their name.

農作業の合間、ケンタウロスと片腕の人間が並んで腰を下ろし、楽しそうに話していました。穏やかで、信頼し合っている様子が伝わってきました。

ケンタウロスによると、首元のネックレスや体に刻まれたタトゥーは、仲間の紋章を形に残したものだそうです。

この世界のケンタウロスは、群れで暮らす種族だといいます。しかし、人間が魔法を世界から断とうとしたとき、ほとんどの仲間が命を落としたのだとか。つまり、彼はその生き残りということか。

それでも、人と一緒に働く道を選んだ…こんな笑顔を見せながらも、その決断にはきっと苦しさがあったはず。

「人が攻撃する前だったら、ケンタウロスと人間の友情なんて誰も信じなかった」と、彼はまた笑って話してくれました。

痛みを経て結ばれた友情には、確かに強さとあたたかさがありました。
傷を負った事実があっても、前に進むことはできるのかもしれません。

During a break from working in the fields, a centaur and a one-armed man sat down together, chatting and laughing. They seemed relaxed, like they really trusted each other.

The centaur said the necklace around his neck and the tattoos on his body are actually symbols—marks that carry the memory of his old companions.

In this world, centaurs usually live in herds. But when humans tried to wipe magic out of the world, most of them were killed. So I guess that makes him one of the last ones left.

Even so, he chose to work with humans.
Seeing him smile like that, I can’t help but think—making that choice must’ve been really hard.

He also told me, with a bit of a laugh, “Before the attacks, no one would’ve believed centaurs and humans could ever be friends.”

There’s a certain strength and warmth in friendships that grow out of pain.

Maybe even with scars, we can still move forward.

図書館を管理しているのは、魔法使いでした。
最初、何か話しかけられたんですが、知らない言語だったのでさっぱりわからず。

ちょうどそのとき、そばの木の中で本を読んでいた狐と少女がやってきて、通訳してくれました。翻訳って、こういう感じなんだなぁと実感。

どうやら、私が書いたレポートを気に入ってくれたようで、「ここに保管していい」とのこと。外からの視点が面白いらしいです。

それにしても、あの図書館員……どこかで見たことあるような？
まぁ、それはさておき、狐がなんだか意地悪だったのを除いては、すごく親切な魔法使いと赤髪の少女でした。

あと、面白い話も聞きました。この図書館、建物自体が“生きた魔法”でできていて、木々がそのまま構造になっているそうです。
でも、真ん中にある小さな木だけが葉もなくて、今にも枯れそうな様子。
なぜそんな木が中心にあるのかは、まだよくわかりません。

The one managing this library turned out to be a wizard.
At first, she said something to me, but it was in a language I didn’t understand at all.

Just then, a fox and a girl—who had been reading in a tree nearby—came over and helped translate.
So this is what it feels like to have someone translating for you… interesting.

Apparently, the wizard liked my reports I wrote and said I could store it here.
Seems like she found the outside perspective refreshing.

By the way, this librarian… feels kind of familiar somehow.
Anyway, she and the red hair girl were super kind, so no complaints there… other than the fox was kind of mean to me.

I also got some extra info from the two.
Turns out this library is held together by “living magic,” and the trees themselves form the building.
But the one small tree in the center has no leaves—it looks like it’s about to die.
Why she placed that particular tree in the middle… no clue yet.

ムラサキ モラダと名付けました!
ムラサキと呼ぶことに決めました。

ちなみに、どうやらインクをこぼしてしまったようです。
先日会ったときには、ペンが進んで手紙も書き進めていたようですが、内容をちゃんと覚えているといいですね😅

ムラサキと別れた後、手元に巻物のような紙が残っていることに気が付きました。
せっかくなので、これからこの世界のレポートをここに書き留めていこうと思います。

「ダークエルフのレポート1」を書き写しておきましたが、このまま続けると、保管場所が足りなくなりそうな気がします…。

I have named her Murasaki Morada

By the way, it seems like she spilled some ink.
When I met her the other day, she seemed to be making progress with her pen, continuing to write the letter. I hope she remembers what she wrote 😅

After saying goodbye to Murasaki, I noticed she left a scroll-like piece of paper behind.
Since it’s here, I’ve decided to start documenting reports of this world on it.

I’ve already transcribed “Dark Elf Report 1,” but if I continue like this, I feel like I might run out of storage space…

自分の中に平穏を見つけた。

Finding peace in myself.

自分が生み出すものには、自分の過去の経験が静かに映し出されるんだそうです。

かつて私は紫だった。🤪

I heard that the things we create often mirror our own stories.

Once, I was purple.🤪

ちなみにこの子は、前に見たときは誰かにラブレターを書こうとしていて、なかなか言葉がまとまらずに困っている様子でした。

今日は少し筆が進みそうなので、ついに書けるかもしれませんね。少なくとも、一文くらいは…😂

ちなみに、この子の種族は、本来は小指にインクをつけて文字を書くのが習慣だったのですが、すっかりそれを忘れていて、今回はペンを持たせてしまいました。まあ、最近はペンも普及してきたのでしょう。

名前は募集中です！

この子は他のエルフとは距離を置いて過ごしているダークエルフです。手紙のやり取りが多く、時間を気にしないこのエルフ族の文化の中で育ちました。内気で、家にこもって詩を書くのが好きです。

でも、その詩をそのまま想い人に送るわけにもいかず、だから手紙を書こうとするのですが…そうなると何も書けなくなってしまうのです。

By the way, the last time we saw her, she was trying to write a love letter to someone, but she was clearly struggling to find the right words.

Today, it seems like the words might finally start to flow—maybe she’ll be able to write at least one full sentence… hopefully! 😂

Traditionally, her kind would dip their pinky finger in ink to write, but I seem to have completely forgotten that and drew her holding a pen instead. Well, I guess pens have become more common in recent years.

Name ideas are welcome!

She’s a dark elf who tends to keep her distance from other elves. In her culture, where time is never rushed, letter writing is a common form of communication. She’s shy and prefers staying home, writing poetry.

But of course, she can’t just send her poems directly to the one she loves… so she tries to write a proper letter instead. And when she tries… her mind just goes blank.
