Here's how each energy centre maps to a gland, a nerve bundle, and an emotion.

MULADHARA — QĀLAB (قالب) — the perineum
Sacro-coccygeal plexus. The eliminative and sexual outlets.
Job: elimination and sexual function. Seat of apana vayu, the downward breath.
Governs: survival, safety, fear, shame.

SWADHISTHANA — NAFS (نفس) — below the navel
Sacral plexus. Ovaries and testes.
Job: sex hormones, fertility, cycles.
Governs: desire, pleasure, creativity, guilt.
Nafs means "self" — same root as nafas, breath.

MANIPURA — SIRR (سر) — solar plexus
Celiac plexus, the largest nerve bundle outside the brain. Pancreas and adrenals.
Job: digestion, blood sugar, the stress response.
Governs: power, will, confidence, anger, anxiety.
Sirr means "secret." What you know before you can explain it.

ANAHATA — QALB (قلب) — centre of the chest
Cardiac plexus. Thymus.
Job: heart rate and breath. The thymus teaches your immune cells to know self from not-self.
Governs: love, grief, compassion, connection.
Qalb comes from a root meaning to turn over, to transform.

VISHUDDHI — RŪḤ (روح) — throat
Cervical plexus. Thyroid and parathyroid.
Job: sets your metabolic rate — how fast every cell in you burns.
Governs: truth, expression, your voice.
Rūḥ means "spirit," from the same root as rīḥ, wind. Like ruach. Like spiritus.

AJNA — KHAFĪ (خفي) — the forehead
Where the three nadis meet. Pineal gland.
Job: makes melatonin. Reads light and dark and tells your body what time it is.
Governs: intuition, insight, clarity.
Khafī means "hidden." The Naqshbandis place it in the centre of the forehead. Same spot.

SAHASRARA — AKHFĀ (أخفى) — the crown
Cerebral cortex. Pituitary, the master gland.
Job: directs the thyroid, adrenals and gonads. Every gland takes orders from here.
Governs: meaning, unity, connection to something bigger.
Akhfā is the superlative of khafī. Hidden, then most hidden.

2am scrolling isn't a willpower problem. It's a nervous system stuck between "wired" and "shut down."

Polyvagal theory describes three states your body moves through:

🟢 Ventral vagal — safe, calm, connected. When you're here, you can actually put the phone down and drift off.
🔴 Sympathetic — fight or flight. The classic 2am "tired but wired": exhausted body, racing brain that won't switch off.
⚫ Dorsal vagal — freeze and shutdown. Numb, foggy, disconnected. It looks like stillness, but it's not rest.

The endless scroll lives right between those last two. It's a freeze with a screen — numbing enough to mute the anxiety underneath, stimulating enough to keep you from fully collapsing. That's why an hour vanishes and you feel worse, not rested.
And the blue light plus constant novelty keep signaling low-level threat, which quietly blocks the "it's safe to sleep now" message your body is trying to send.
The way out isn't shame. It's safety. Long slow exhales (longer out than in), humming, warmth, dimming everything, a hand on your chest. Small, boring, physical — because your nervous system responds to cues of safety, not lectures about screen time.
Your 2am scroll isn't a failure. It's a dysregulated nervous system reaching for the nearest thing that helps.

🎧 We go deep on all of this with Dr Ela Manga — breath, burnout, and how to actually bring your nervous system back to calm. Watch the full episode now — https://youtu.be/UimAFpxM6Nw?si=GL4lS...

Truth isn't just a moral virtue.

It's the foundation that allows relationships, businesses, science, medicine and society itself to function.

Maybe the most valuable thing we can protect isn't money.

Maybe it's reality.

Would you support stronger consequences for proven deception by people in positions of influence—or is that too dangerous?

I'd love to hear your thoughts.
