Chiang Mai, Thailand Mysore Intensive
January–February 2026

Students are welcome to begin their practice on any day of the week. Each week includes 6 days of practice with one rest day on Saturday. If you decide to extend your time in Chiang Mai and continue practicing, you’re welcome to do so—just let us know.

This intensive is open to all levels including beginners or those newer to Ashtanga.

During this intensive you’ll have the chance to dive deeply into your Ashtanga practice not just as a form of physical exercise but as a tool for profound self-discovery and personal growth. In this retreat, we’ll explore the full spectrum of yoga—asana, pranayama, meditation, and philosophy—with the aim of meeting our challenges head-on.

By immersing yourself in the tradition of Ashtanga yoga, drawing upon the essential teachings of the past while finding new, empowering ways of seeing the practice, you’ll leave with a deeper connection to yourself, your practice, and the tools needed to rejuvenate and grow far beyond what you might have thought was possible. In a supportive community and surrounded by the beauty of Thailand, this is your time to reset, renew, and rise to the challenges of life with newfound clarity and courage.

Chiang Mai sits in the lush northern hills of Thailand, about an hour’s flight from Bangkok. Known as the country’s cultural and spiritual capital, this historic city offers a tranquil setting for deep study and renewal. Encircled by mountains and filled with ancient temples, Chiang Mai blends the charm of tradition with the comforts of modern life.

At heart the discipline of yoga is simple; it’s about taking a bit of time to restore your reverence, reconnect with yourself, and remember the beauty that links you to all life.

A daily practice doesn’t have to be long or perfect. Even the basics — Sun Salutations, a few standing poses, some finishing — can be enough. And even if you have a longer practice, circling back to the basics strengthens your foundation and connects you with the simplicity of the great art. It’s easy to get wrapped up in your head and forget the reasons you keep doing it.

Join me for a special online weekend workshop THIS WEEKEND - Sept 26-28

We’ll explore the foundations of Ashtanga through the flexible four-part Ashtanga template: Sun Salutations, Standing, Seated, and Finishing.

You’ll learn how to adapt the template to any amount of time you have. And you’ll see how returning to the basics can help you reset and give you more clarity on your path of transformation.

What do you do when your posture just won’t change—no matter how many drills or hours you put in? In this talk, I dive into the deeper meaning of self-effort in yoga, inspired by the Yoga Vasistha.

I’ve learned that progress in practice isn’t just about going deeper into poses. True growth comes from a shift in understanding—one that starts in the heart and is supported by the teachings of yoga.

Through reflections on forward bends and other challenging postures, I explore how yoga helps us strengthen what’s pure, release what isn’t, and find meaning that goes way beyond the physical.

The body isn’t in the way—it is the way.

Join me for a unique weekend designed especially for those who want a safe, intelligent, and inspiring introduction to the power and joy of Ashtanga Yoga. Whether you’re completely new to the practice, have tried a few classes and felt overwhelmed, or are a veteran wanting a smart reset, this workshop will help you build a solid foundation — in a clear, accessible, and flexible way.

Workshop is online or you can attend in person in Philadelphia.

Too often, students either think Ashtanga isn’t for them, or if they do take up the practice, they focus on complex poses too soon and get stuck in rigid sequences — all without ever truly learning the basics. In this workshop, you’ll experience the brilliant structure of Ashtanga and discover how it can serve you and your unique needs and preferences.

What You’ll Learn
A clear, flexible structure:
You’ll discover Ashtanga as a practical template made up of four key parts:
1️⃣ Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskara)
2️⃣ Standing Poses
3️⃣ Seated Postures
4️⃣ Finishing Poses

This template gives you a solid base that can be customized for your body, goals, and lifestyle — so you know exactly how to practice at home or in class without feeling lost or pressured to “keep up.”

How to build each part mindfully:
We’ll break down:
• The core poses in each section
• How to align them safely
• How to individualize them for different bodies
• How to enter and exit each pose skillfully (the art of transitioning — vinyasa)

The mindset that makes Ashtanga work:
You’ll learn the guiding principles behind every pose and movement — so you don’t just copy shapes but understand why you do what you do. For example:
• Why Samasthiti (the idea of equal standing) is the hidden root of every posture.
• How to adopt the empowering mentality I call the crouch and spring — helping you set up and launch each transition with strength, intention, and purposeful action.
• How to use your legs and arms as a solid foundation so your spine can awaken and probe space naturally and creatively.

Class Details
September 26th

Friday Night — 6:00–8:00 PM

Topic: The Foundation — Sun Salutations
We’ll open the weekend by studying how to begin: the Surya Namaskara (Sun Salutations). Learn how each position and each transition sets the tone for your entire practice — and how to move and strike poses with clarity, strength, and ease.

September 27th

Saturday Morning — 9:00–11:30 AM

Topic: Standing Poses & Seated Postures (Part 1)
We’ll build on the foundation with the standing poses — the essential stabilizing asanas that root you to the earth and prepare your hips and spine for deeper work. We’ll also introduce selected seated postures from the Primary Series, showing how to adapt them safely and meaningfully for all bodies.

⏸️ Break — 11:30–12:30 PM

Saturday Afternoon — 12:30–2:30 PM

Topic: Pranayama & Mudra
Explore the breath — the fifth asana principle — and learn simple, powerful introductory pranayama techniques that arise naturally from the practice of asanas and vinyasas. We’ll also enjoy an introduction to mudras (the sixth asana principle), deepening your inner connection and energy flow.

September 28th

Sunday Morning — 9:00–11:00 AM

Topic: Seated Postures (Part 2) & Finishing Poses
We’ll return to the seated postures, then progress into the finishing sequence: building a solid foundation for backbends, shoulderstand, and headstand. You’ll learn how to wrap up your practice in a balanced, complete way that leaves you grounded and refreshed.

⏸️ Short Break — 11:00–11:30 AM

Sunday Late Morning — 11:30–12:30 PM

Topic: The Seven Asana Principles & Yoga Philosophy
To close, we’ll gather for a talk and Q&A on the seven guiding principles that make this practice intelligent and sustainable. We’ll also touch on key ideas from yoga philosophy that illuminate the approach we’ve explored throughout the weekend.

Online & In Person
You can participate in the workshop either online or in person. Recordings will be made available if you can't attend live.
