POLIS Ensemble
POLIS Ensemble was founded in December 2011 in Athens.
The Greek word "polis" tries to photograph all those Mediterranean cities which were for centuries the locus of amalgamation between the musical traditions of Greeks and Turks, Arabs and Persians, Armenians and Romanians, Italians, Jews and Roma.
Using this aesthetic of the Eastern Mediterranean as a soundboard and combining art music of both East and West with Greek regional idioms and contemporary music, the band embarks on a musical journey full of emotional affect and moments of ecstasy, for ports as of yet unknown.
During last eight years, the sextet from Athens had the pleasure and honour to collaborate with great singers, virtuosi, actors or vocal ensembles and has been invited and performed in very special and important concert halls and music festivals in Greece and abroad.
