Maa Vue

My heart hurts so much reading this message.
Thank you to the heroes and the Hmong families who were on the flight with my dad and stayed with him during such a frightening moment. Knowing he was not alone means more to our family than words can express.
Mob kuv lub plawv tshaj plaws li os.
Kuv txiv aws… koj puas paub tias kuv twb tuaj txog South Korea lawm thiab kuv twb nyob ntawm no nrog koj os?
Right now my dad is in the ICU in South Korea fighting for his life. Our family is doing everything we can while navigating this unexpected medical crisis overseas.
If you are able to help or even just share, it would mean so much to our family during this time.

I never imagined I would be writing something like this. Some of you may have noticed that I’ve been in South Korea this past week. The reason is something our family never saw coming.

My dad, Vang Vue, became critically ill during his return flight home from Laos. When the plane landed, he was rushed to the ICU and is now sedated while doctors work to stabilize him.

Many of you know my dad as the musician who brought the sound of his xim xaus, also known as the erhu, into the music we created together. Some of my favorite moments on stage have been the ones where we shared that music side by side.

Right now our family is facing a medical crisis far from home. Because my dad had no international medical coverage, the cost of ICU care is rising quickly.

It’s not easy for me to ask for help, but we created a fundraiser to help support his care. If you’re able to donate or simply share the link, it would mean more to our family than I can say.

Thank you for keeping my dad in your thoughts.

The Dream Carrier brought together music, dance, story, and community in a way that reminded me what it means to belong. That night, the room felt alive, filled with people listening, feeling, and connecting through something greater than us. It reminded me why I create and what it means to carry hope forward. There’s more to share from that night, and I’m still taking it all in. The next chapter of The Dream Carrier begins in 2026. 💛

That night in France, I sang “Niam Tus Txiaj Ntsig.” It’s the song my mom and I wrote together.

I often think about how the best parts of me come from her. My laughter, my love for people, my joy for life. Those are the pieces of her that live in me.

That night, as I sang our song, I felt her there with me.

I’m proud to carry her light wherever I go.

Ua tsaug os, kuv niam.

Thank you to @christyvang.production for capturing this moment and thank you to @sea.of.gamerelated for gifting this beautiful dress for my performance. 💙

I brought my mom along during The Dream Carrier trailer shoot — my upcoming concert experience this September. I needed her to witness how far this dream has come… and where it’s still going.

I began my music career 12 years ago. At the time, the Hmong music scene was just starting to grow online. YouTube gave our voices visibility, especially for Hmong women.

My mom worried about my safety, my name, and how the world might treat someone like me. She had lived through war. Survived and raised children in refugee camps.

She wasn’t trying to stop me. She was trying to protect me with everything she knew.
And over time, she saw that I wasn’t just performing. I was trying to preserve what I couldn’t afford to lose — our language, our stories, our identity.

Now, I get to use my voice to build the next chapter in her memory.
