A record 129 journalists and media workers were killed worldwide in 2025, and Israel was responsible for 2/3 of those murders, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.



The CPJ said 2025 was the second consecutive annual record for press deaths and the deadliest year since they began collecting data more than three decades ago.



"Journalists are being killed in record numbers at a time when access to information is more important than ever," CPJ chief executive Jodie Ginsberg said in a statement.



"We are all at risk when journalists are killed for reporting the news."



Over three-quarters of all the fatalities in 2025 were in conflict settings, the CPJ said in its report.

Israel's cabinet last week approved a process to restart land registration in the occupied West Bank for the first time since 1967, allowing the state to claim land from Palestinians unable to prove ownership.
