The Voice of the Martyrs Canada

Actively Remembering and Serving the "Church Persecuted."

Voice of the Martyrs is a Canadian non-profit charitable organization dedicated to supporting, loving and encouraging persecuted Christians worldwide.

We help Christians who are, or have been, persecuted for their involvement in spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We provide medical assistance, food, clothing and other forms of aid.

We encourage persecuted Christians by giving their testimonies a voice and informing Christians in Canada to know how to help. We believe that the lives and the testimonies of persecuted Christians are a vital part of the fellowship of all believers and will challenge and strengthen the faith of Christians everywhere.

Faithful Through the Fire: Nigeria’s Resilient Christian Widows

Rebeccah’s husband was shot to death by Boko Haram militants in 2014 while he was walking to church one day. At the time, Rebeccah was pregnant with their fifth child. After the militants destroyed the family’s village in the attack, Rebecca didn’t know what Ruthhappened to her missing husband. It wasn’t until three days later that she discovered his body in a morgue. Shortly after her husband’s murder, Rebeccah’s faith wavered and she struggled to provide basic necessities for her growing children. Yet, after receiving months of Biblically based trauma counselling, as well as opportunities to process her pain with other surviving Christians, Rebeccah’s faith has thankfully been restored.

The Voice of the Martyrs Canada

Pastor Kamran Salamat was widely respected for his ministry work and commitment to promoting interfaith peace. He served as pastor of a church in Islamabad, where he ministered faithfully and advocated for the rights of Christians in Pakistan. As a result of his ministry activities, Pastor Kamran was violently attacked in September and shot in the leg, leaving him seriously injured.

Concerned for his safety, the church leader's family encouraged him to move to Lahore. However, when the sense of danger persisted, the pastor relocated to Gujranwala with his wife and three children. Despite the distance, he remained devoted to his congregation, travelling to Islamabad each weekend to continue his ministry. Tragically, the pastor was also met with violence after relocating to his new residence.

On December 5th, while leaving home to drive his daughter Numeer to college, Pastor Kamran was ambushed by an unknown assailant who was riding a motorcycle. Armed with a gun, the attacker opened fire, hitting the church leader in the wrist, ear and lower abdomen. In an act of bravery, Numeer struck the gunman with her father's crutch, forcing him to flee. Although Pastor Kamran had been rushed to the hospital, he did not survive his injuries.

Police have initiated an investigation, looking through available video footage and collecting other evidence. The search for the suspect continues while Christians across Pakistan demand justice. Reflecting on Pastor Kamran's life, his brother-in-law, Pastor Shehzad Suleman, stated, "He was very brave and always said he did not care for his life while serving God – and today he has proved it." The dedicated church leader is survived by his wife Salmina, daughters Numeer (16) and Arina (11), and son Ariel (14).

The Voice of the Martyrs Canada

"Christ’s followers will always face risk, to some degree or other. Such risk cannot be avoided but should be mitigated through godly wisdom and strategies.

In Luke 10:5–7 we read, “Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house!’ And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him. But if not, it will return to you. And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house.”

This strategy is known as finding the person of peace. Many evangelists use it in regions hostile to the gospel. The approach is as simple as it is biblical. Go out into an area and sow seeds through prayer and good works. Be open to God’s promptings and accept the unexpected, for a person of peace may not appear so at first glance. The mark of a person of peace is welcoming the sower and the message.

While this has been an effective means of sharing the gospel and growing the church, it is not without its risks. Therefore, Jesus also tells His disciples not to give way to fear when they face persecution. God will use even the persecution of His saints to testify of His glory."

Faithful Through the Fire: Nigeria’s Resilient Christian Widows

Chundung’s husband, David, was killed on September 7th, 2001, in Jos, Nigeria. While walking to the bank that day, he got caught up in a battle between the community’s Muslims and Christians. Twenty other people from their church were also slain that day. As David’s body had never been found, the family couldn’t conduct a burial for him. Chundung, who was left to raise their four children on her own, admits: “Life has not been easy for me. I could not hold myself up, and I could not feed my children.” Through the support of a partnering Christian ministry, this widowed mother and her children were able to receive greatly needed assistance.

In October, Chinese Communist Party (CCP) authorities began a coordinated campaign against the Beijing Zion Church and its various campuses, detaining dozens of Christian leaders. (For more details, see our previously published report: vomcanada.com/cn-2025-10-23.htm)

On November 18th, the Beihai Municipal People's Procuratorate approved the formal arrests of 18 pastors and church staff members, charging them with "illegally using information networks." If convicted, the believers could face up to three years in prison. These formal arrests initiate criminal investigations that will eventually lead to the trial of each apprehended church leader – a process that could take more than a year.

Dr. Bob Fu, president of ChinaAid, describes the recent arrests as "a shocking milestone in the CCP's full-scale war against Christianity in China." Zion Church is one of the largest networks of unregistered churches in the country, with approximately 5,000 members spanning across more than 40 cities. In addition, an estimated 10,000 Christians view the services online. Jin Mingri, the church's founder and senior pastor, happens to be among those arrested.
