My name is Elias Gold and here I make videos. I discuss and analyze indigenous representations in various forms of media. Along with reactions and reviews to and for Indigenous content or indigenous themed content. Email me for any inquiries.
Hey everyone! I have a new video up. Just giving some updates on me and channel and where I see it going in the midst of a lot of changes going on in my life.
Just wanted to pop in and say I am very excited for this series.
One because it is a series helmed by Native Hawaiians (Kānaka Maoli); Jason Momoa and Thomas Pa’a Sibbett. Throughout his career, Momoa has always inserted inklings of his culture, (the same with Dwayne Johnson) however, this is the type of project that I've always wanted to see where they go all in. Also super excited to see Temuera Morrison, Cliff Curtis, and Luciane Buchanan.
Second, because this is taking the indigenous perspective in and around the age of the Western Colonial expansion of the Pacific Islands. It seems Momoa will be portraying King Kamehameha who united the islands.
For this to be on as large as a streaming platform like Apple TV is such a big step. I've always wanted to see a historical, political, war epic centered around Indigenous People BY Indigenous People. I'd love to see a version like this with the dramatization of the formation of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy.
UPDATE: Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has subscribed recently, the channel has reached 22,000 Subs. Which is wild! Thank you! I know alot of you are recently coming from my Avatar video. Rest assured, more content is brewing and more sid projects are coming as well. My eye is recovering well so far. And once my short film is done making its rounds in the festival circuit, y'all be able to see it here on YouTube! Again, thank you everybody, you'll be seeing me more here soon.
I'd figured I'd tell y'all whats been happening to me. A year ago in December the Retina in my right eye was starting to detach and I had an emergency surgery, and it got better. BUT this year my left eye decided to act up the same week my right eye did least year, only this time my Retina was a little worse, but since the surgery last week, all is well so far and I'm recovering.
However, all of this has gotten me thinking ALOT about my overall health, longevity, body alienation, and my career aspirations. Even with these setbacks I am still determined to accomplish my goals in filmmaking and being a voice in the indigenous media space. If anything this has bolstered my drive with ambition, and ironically grounding in me in reality. I think wisdom in life is knowing your limits, but I'm barely 30 and haven't even scratched the surface of what I think I can accomplish.
Just gonna continue on forward and get shit done. And for the first time in a long time I've recognized the importance of knowing my body and being more in-tune with it. And many have told me the eye patch is cool so I did some fun self portraits with it and the spear to signify I'm not done and that I'll put up a fight, in so many ways.
Popping in while I'm continuing to make more videos on ALOT of stuff I've been meaning to talk about, but I figured I'd make this little edit. This is probably one of my favorite edits yet. I was thinking it would be cool to see a show that played with both the inner and outer politics of the #landbackmovement . Obviously, I'm riffing on the opening title sequence to HBO's Succession I kinda thought the juxtaposition of these images and scenes to the theme was playing with some irony.
Hey everybody! I'm finally back! With a summer busy with life, surgeries, sicknesses, and editing. I can finally show you all a sneak peek into my short film! Over 90% of the donors for this project came from you guys! Which I will be forever thankful!
Looks I just ghosted y'all lol BUT, I've been super busy with shooting "Guts: Hastiin Bi'Achii" and I'll definitely be making a video about the experience, but here are a few photos of our time on set. I learned ALOT and thankful for everyone that has contributed, and will continue to keep learning. I will be busy again unfortunately, as my 2nd born is due here soon and I have another eye surgery scheduled for next month, I thought I'd have time to get content out, but life has been so busy, GOOD busy. But I have not abandoned the channel and the content I wanna make for y'all. Keep a look out on here and on instagram: www.instagram.com/nativemediatheory?utm_source=ig_…
Just posted a short about this, but we had a miracle in the last half our of the campaign on Friday, and we hit 100% of our funding goal! I just want to thank everyone that shared, donated, and was over all supportive of this endeavor of mine to make something personal and of substance to you all. I really do want to walk the walk, and not just talk about it. Be on the lookout for updates with this project as we are underway with production. Be sure to follow on Instagram: www.instagram.com/gutsshortfilm?utm_source=ig_web_… content also on the way here soon, too!
