In 1974 my then-girlfriend and I split up and she went home to Dallas. I followed her, after it seemed things had cooled down, and stayed for a while at her mom's house in North Dallas, a house from which you could see the city from miles away. One day I got into her mom's liquor supply, and when she found out, told me o leave. I only had enough money to get to Kansas City, and went there, and liived at 2911 Campbell at first, in what was called a premie house (a communal household of followers of Guru Maharaj Ji), with a group of friends who had a combination bluegrass/devotional band called "Country Love", with Janet Thurston Rucker, and John Stephens and Bob Burdett on standup bass and a man named Kelly (can't recall his surname) who played the mandolin. One of the htings ountry Love did, as part of the spiritual obligation of service, was to volunteer to perform at various nursing homes in the area of KC acentering around the thosand-foot KCMO tower. It was a lower or working class neighborhood, and some poor too. At one of the nursing homes was a young man, who I only knew as Michael, who had, as I recall, muscular dystrophy and was confined to bed, unable to move, but alert and aware. I remember his happy ace when we would play music for him, how he would light up. That, along with, of ocourse, many other reasons, is why I play music. I want to share it, and bring a little happiness to others via my music. Thank you Michael, and all those others, for being part of my life. This was more than fifty years ago, yet I think, it still matters, and maybe on the other side, I'lll see Michael and all the others, and there are so many over the years, to whom I played a guitar or a dulcimer or a piano song. You read it here first. What Gator-Ade needs to do is put one of those spillproof tips in there under the cap so when you drop your Gator-Ade it doesn't all pour out before you can get the bottle picked up. Because I just had that happen.
