Holy cow! Has it been 20 years already!?! I’m putting Five Times August’s first album “The Independent” on vinyl for the first time ever. All your favorite early FTA tracks that appeared on a slew of MTV and HBO programs, this was really where it all began. This was also the first album ever distributed and sold nationwide in Walmart stores by a completely unsigned artist!

Hard to believe this year is the 20th anniversary of Five Times August's "Fry Street" album. This was FTA's first full length "studio" album, although it wasn't actually recorded in a studio, but a run down house we were living in located off of Fry Street in Denton, TX. Every song on the album was eventually licensed to various tv shows, commercials, and indie films. Those placements helped build a decent following online, and FTA became the number one unsigned artist on Myspace back then, which opened the door to touring a bunch college campuses for a number of years. By 2007 I had reissued the album with new artwork and re-titled it "The Independent." It was actually the first album by a completely unsigned artist to be distributed and sold in Walmart stores! Time flies.
Check out Episode 30 of "Star Spangled Adventures" featuring American lcon Pat Boone doing the voice for Daniel Boone! I had the privilege of writing and recording a little song called "Trailblazer" for this one that Pat himself sang the lead on. What an awesome and fun collaboration. True legend.
