To the people who think politics and permaculture don't belong in the same conversation.

Someone left a comment asking "why is climate change the greatest threat humanity has ever faced?". I thought I'd share my response here for anyone interested....
It IS the biggest challenge we've ever faced, because it's only a symptom of the ACTUAL thing we have to solve, which is OVERSHOOT.
To address "climate change" without addressing overshoot (for example, its not possible, but imagine if it was possible to build enough direct air carbon capture, and fix the CH4/CO2 problem, without solving overconsumption). This means we still go extinct, but the trigger is the biosphere collapse, extinctions, topsoil loss, and resource shortages.
The reason why this is the largest challenge we've ever faced is because to actually survive overshoot (which is what is causing climate change), we need to COMPLETELY overhaul human society. We need to evolve past capitalism.
We have to find a way to CHOOSE to live lower energy lifestyles.
We need to reprogram people to not define success as how much money you make, but rather by how happy you are, human relationships, personal health (spiritual, physical, mental), etc. We have to completely disrupt current human society and rewire 8 billion people and growing. We have to find a way to do that to the 1% who are WINNING capitalism and get them to not want to win anymore, at least not in the way they define winning. We have to convince shareholders that profit isn't what they should seek, but rather the collective advancement of humans who aren't necessarily themselves.
This is why it's the biggest challenge we've ever faced, and it's very likely why overshoot is the answer to the Fermi Paradox, because by the time a species figures out that OVERSHOOT is the problem to solve, it's too late, and too impossible to rewire society.

It looks like Thwaites (doomsday glacier) is breaking off. This is the 2nd anchor point (of 2) that has come free this week, and a large crack has started showing. We could be in uncharted territory... x.com/KrVaSt/status/1878864155857580282

This has to be AI. Tell me this isn't real life. This is WILD. youtube.com/live/yjN5dvDTeaE?si=e5uaEQXN0imEeutq&t…. Does anyone remember 20 years ago when a slightly awkward scream led to the end of Howard Dean's campaign? And how we have this. America, please kindly get your things in order. Sincerely, your little brother/Canadian hat.

This may be the most important thing that has happened to humans. Ever. We won't know how bad this is for a few weeks or longer.
It is looking likely that the Thwaites (doonsday) Glacier just cracked.

I don't want to be alarmist, and I'm HOPING that this IS alarmist and isn't as bad as this seems...
We could be entering the "find out" phase of "F" around and find out.
