𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐁𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐎𝐬𝐤𝐚𝐫 💛

It’s been an emotional whirlwind for us lately. None of us could have predicted what was coming last week. After a hospital visit, Oskar has been diagnosed with MS (Multiple Sclerosis), following the discovery of a long-standing inflammation in his brain and spine.

Looking back, there had been subtle signs over the past few years—but symptoms of MS can also resemble those of stress, sleep deprivation, or poor diet… things most musicians are unfortunately no strangers to. We all assumed it was just burnout. After all, trying to make a living from art often takes its toll in invisible ways.

We want to express our deepest gratitude to the Norwegian healthcare system, the incredible staff at the Neurology Clinic at Ullevål Hospital, and all the taxpayers who make it possible. Thank you. We’re lucky to live in a country where this kind of care exists.
(And by the way: healthcare professionals deserve better conditions, and the hospitals need more money! ✊)

As we begin to process everything, we’re slowly shifting our focus towards optimism. Oskar’s health and recovery are now our top priority—and to give him space to rest and heal, we’ve already found a substitute drummer for our upcoming shows this spring and summer.

But let it be clear: Oskar is not leaving Kalandra. Not only is he our drummer but he’s an incredible composer, producer, and creative force in this band. And with proper treatment and time, there’s real hope that he can rejoin us on stage in the future.

If there’s one thing we’ve learned through this experience (and yes, we say this as we pack for another tour like a walking paradox), it’s this:

🌕 𝘛𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩.
🌕 𝘋𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘴—𝘨𝘰 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳.
🌕 𝘎𝘦𝘵 8–9 𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘴𝘭𝘦𝘦𝘱, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘥𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘪𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯.

Cry, dance, hug, breathe, and confide in the people you trust.
We're all trying our best—and sometimes we need to be reminded to pause.

This has been a huge wake-up call for us.

Happy International Woman’s Day! 🩸❤️ bleeding as we speak.
I’ll say again what I said last year, and the year before that, and the year… ♻️
I feel lucky and empowered knowing so many beautiful and smart women, as well as having supportive, caring and secure men around me too.

Yes. At some point, we have to ask ourselves “are we excluding more than we are including? (Have we done unto others, what was done to us? And is that a path of growth?”) ☕️💭

(This is also what the lyrics of our song “I Am” is referring to at a deeper level, unknowingly inflicting familiar pain onto others as a form of redemption)

Anyway…

It’s not like there was a time where women didn’t work. A question for the TradWives movement: isn’t what you do work? Isn’t it equally highly valuable work? Raising the next human beings of this earth. The feminists from back in the day were (amongst other things) actually fighting for stay-at-home mothers to be seen as an equal contributor to society.

For me it’s always been about building a strong feeling of community with all of us...
It’s about Humans raising each other. For me, it’s about having equal opportunities to choose what’s right for you. Regardlesst if it’s in line- or in contradiction with traditional gender norms/roles. It’s about having the freedom to live out your inner truth.

What if all genders could embrace this philosophy? 🌱🌳
