Thinking of switching to a UK care visa from inside the UK?

Big immigration changes dropped on July 1st, and if you’re on a Graduate Visa (or any UK visa), here’s what you MUST know before it’s too late.

A thread:

On 1 July, 2025, the UK government officially shut the door on overseas care worker sponsorships.

You can no longer apply for a care visa from outside the UK.

✅ But if you’re already in the UK (on a Graduate, Student, etc.), you can still switch if you follow the new rules.

The biggest change?

You now MUST have worked for your sponsor for at least 3 months before they can legally sponsor you as a care worker (SOC codes 6135/6136).

No shortcuts.

No exceptions.

No working = No sponsorship.

Let me simplify this with a real world example.

Sarah, a Nigerian graduate in the UK.

- She finished her MSc in Healthcare
- She’s now on a Graduate Visa, valid until October 27, 2025
- She just got a job at a care home on 24 June 2025
- The care home agrees to sponsor her

Sounds great, right?

Well, Even though her employer is willing to sponsor her, they can’t do it yet, because of the new rule, Sarah must first work for them for 3 full months.

That means:

- Start date: 24 June
- Sponsorship eligibility date: 24 September 2025
- Only after that can they issue her a Certificate of Sponsorship.

The COS is what unlocks the Skilled Worker visa.

So even though Sarah is already working and her employer is willing, they legally can’t sponsor her early, or her visa will get rejected.

Trying to rush it = refused application + legal risk for the sponsor.

Now here’s the good news:

Sarah’s visa expires 27 October 2025, so if she applies for the new visa anytime between 24 Sept and 27 Oct, she’s completely safe.

She’ll have met all conditions:
âś… 3 months of work
âś… ÂŁ25,000 salary
âś… In-country switch
âś… Valid visa window

Here’s what you should take from this:

1. Already in the UK? âś… You can still switch to a care visa.
2. You MUST work for the same sponsor for 3 full months.
3. No 3 months? No COS. No COS? No Skilled Worker visa.
4. Make sure your visa won’t expire before you hit 3 months.

The salary threshold?

- ÂŁ29,000 for most
- BUT if you’re under 26, a recent graduate, or switching from Graduate Visa = £25,000 minimum is allowed

(Sarah qualifies for the ÂŁ25k rate)

You do NOT need to apply before July 22, 2025.

That deadline applies only to new applicants from abroad, which is now closed.

If you’re inside the UK, you can still apply until 22 July 2028, just make sure your visa is valid and you follow the new rules.

So, if you’re like Sarah:

On a Graduate Visa
Got a care job
Visa still valid for 3+ months

👉 Start working NOW
👉 Complete 3 months
👉 Apply for care visa BEFORE your visa expires
👉 Secure your Skilled Worker route 💪

Know someone who’s working in care or just got a job offer but is on a Graduate Visa?

Please kindly share to save someone from depression and anxiety stress today🫶🏽

🚨 BREAKING: List of Proposed UK Immigration Changes Coming soon.

- Measures will reduce immigration numbers by around 100,000 a year (full calculation for each measure below)

- Legislation will be brought in to make clear that the Government and Parliament - not courts - determine who should stay, tackling misuse of Article 8 (right to family life) to block deportations

Work reforms:

- Skilled workers will require university-level degrees to come to the UK, and salary thresholds will increase

- The Immigration Skills Charge - paid by sponsors - will rise by 32% for the first time since 2017, in line with inflation

- Social care visas will close to new overseas applicants; people already in the UK with work rights can extend or switch visas until 2028, subject to review

- A new Labour Market Evidence Group will be created to use better data to shape decisions on jobs and migration policy

- Key sectors that rely heavily on overseas recruitment will face new requirements to produce workforce strategies

- A Temporary Shortage List will be introduced to give time-limited access to the Points-Based immigration system for roles below RQF level 6

- Only jobs facing long-term shortages and backed by the Migration Advisory Committee will qualify for the above - if there’s also a workforce plan and employers commit to hiring more UK workers

- Discounts that allow lower salaries for shortage jobs will be scrapped, so all roles must meet the full salary threshold (Immigration Salary List)

- Some UNHCR-recognised refugees and displaced people with the right skills will be able to apply through the skilled worker route

- More routes will be opened for highly skilled people and top global talent to work in the UK

Study reforms:

- Graduates will be able to stay in the UK for only 18 months after their studies, compared to current period of two years

- A levy on income from international students is being considered, with the money potentially going towards domestic skills training

- Sponsoring institutions will face tougher requirements to be allowed to recruit international students

- The pass mark for compliance metrics will rise by 5%, meaning sponsors must now have at least a 95% course enrolment rate and 90% completion rate

- A new Red-Amber-Green rating system will show how well each sponsor is meeting compliance standards

- Sponsors at risk of failing compliance checks may face action plans and limits on how many new international students they can bring in

- Institutions using overseas recruitment agents must sign up to the Agent Quality Framework to ensure high standards

- Universities and colleges will need to show they’ve considered local impacts when planning international student recruitment

- Short-Term Study accreditation bodies will be reviewed to tighten checks before and during accreditation

Illegal working and foreign criminals:

- Foreign nationals convicted of crimes will be flagged even if not jailed, with new deportation thresholds reflecting seriousness of offences, including violence against women and girls

- Processes to remove foreign national offenders will be simplified, with extra action against recent arrivals who commit crimes before offending escalates

- Migrants will have to have digital IDs through eVisas, replacing Biometric Residence Permits

- Stricter checks will target people who claim asylum without any new or serious risks in their home country

- More resources will tackle illegal working - especially in sectors like the gig economy - using eVisas, biometric tech, and extra enforcement staff

- Banking checks will be updated to reflect tech changes and to act against those who break the rules, including tax evasion

- More reforms and stronger enforcement measures, including faster removals, will be announced later this year

- Pressure will be applied on foreign governments that block the return of their nationals

- Financial penalties and sanctions may be imposed on sponsors (employers or institutions) where abuse of the immigration system is found

Integration and community cohesion:

- English Language requirements for Skilled Workers and others will rise from B1 to B2 (Independent User level under CEFR)

- Adult dependants of workers and students will need to meet at least A1 (Basic User) English level, with plans to raise this over time

- Visa extensions will require proof of progress to A2 level, and B2 level will be needed for settlement

- Most settlement routes will now require B2-level English instead of B1

- The standard qualifying period for settlement will increase to ten years under a reformed Points-Based System

- Those making strong contributions to the UK economy or society could qualify for faster settlement and citizenship

- Family members of British citizens can still settle in the UK after five years, and protections remain for domestic abuse victims

- Parents of British or settled children who die will be allowed to stay in the UK permanently right away

- The Life in the UK test (which people must pass to become British citizens or settle permanently) will be reviewed and improved, and costs of applying for British citizenship could be reduced for young people who’ve lived in the UK for most of their lives

- Young people who’ve grown up in the UK

without legal status will be helped to stay permanently, with extra support for those in care or leaving care

He is my son, and he is six today!
Your birth has always been a blessing.

I moved from being known as “Blessing, Iyawo, Malik’s wife” to “Mummy Junior”—after six long years of waiting.

All my children are so special, but I promised myself I would always share the story of your birth because it is so unique. I want TTC (trying to conceive) mums to hold on to hope through your story.

WATCH OUT FOR THE STORY…

Happy Birthday, my prince!

Thinking of Studying in the UK? Here's Your Complete Step-by-Step Guide

If you have the financial means and are considering applying through the UK Student Route, this guide is for you. You absolutely do not need to pay anyone to handle the process on your behalf—everything you need is right here.

UK Student Visa Guide: Step-by-Step Process

1. Prepare All Required Documents

Before applying, make sure you have the following:

A valid international passport (at least six months validity)
Degree certificate or statement of result
Academic transcript
2–3 reference letters (preferably from a lecturer or employer)
Statement of Purpose (explaining your academic goals, choice of course/university, and your reason for choosing the UK)
English proficiency proof (WAEC with a minimum of C6 in English, IELTS, or a university-issued English proficiency letter)
Updated Curriculum Vitae (CV)
2. Search for Courses and Universities

Use search engines to find UK universities offering your course of interest (e.g., “UK universities offering MSc in Nursing”)
Visit university websites, review course content, and shortlist suitable options
Apply directly on the university websites – most do not charge application fees
You can apply to multiple universities or for different courses within the same institution
Changing career paths (e.g., Library Science to Nursing) is possible, depending on your background and experience
3. Accept Your Conditional Offer Letter

Once you receive a conditional offer, you may need to:

Pay a tuition deposit
Pass a Credibility Interview (also called RDC or Pre-CAS interview)
Begin preparing your Proof of Funds (POF)
Upload your payment proof to the student portal
After fulfilling conditions, your CAS (Certificate of Acceptance for Studies) letter will be issued
Note: Some universities may request POF before issuing your CAS

4. Receive Your CAS Letter

Your CAS is essential for your visa application. Once issued:

Book a Tuberculosis (TB) test at an approved centre in Lagos or Abuja
Confirm the test centre’s location, make payment, and keep your receipt
Check the UK government website for the current TB test fees
5. Prepare Your Proof of Funds (POF)

Your bank statement must show funds held for at least 28 consecutive days
Acceptable accounts include yours, your spouse’s, or your parents’ (not siblings, cousins, or friends)
Funds should cover your remaining tuition plus 9 months of living expenses
POF Examples:

Studying in London
Tuition balance: ÂŁ10,000
Living expenses: ÂŁ1,334 Ă— 9 = ÂŁ12,006
Total: ÂŁ22,006
Studying Outside London
Tuition balance: ÂŁ10,000
Living expenses: ÂŁ1,023 Ă— 9 = ÂŁ9,207
Total: ÂŁ19,207
6. Begin Your Visa Application

Visa and IHS (Immigration Health Surcharge) payments are based on the black market exchange rate
Pay the IHS fee (varies by course duration—check the UK government site)
Pay the visa fee (Standard, Priority, or Super Priority options available)
Book a biometrics appointment in Lagos or Abuja
After submission, await your decision
7. Arrange Accommodation

Browse platforms like Zoopla, SpareRoom, or your university’s accommodation page
It’s ideal to secure housing before arriving in the UK
Make sure you have a confirmed place to stay on arrival
8. Book Your Flight and Prepare for Arrival

Once your visa and accommodation are confirmed, book your flight
Prepare your documents and essentials for settling into the UK
Final Notes

This guide provides all you need to independently and confidently navigate the UK Student Visa process. Share this with anyone who may benefit from it.
