Learn Buddhism for beginners and Westerners! On my channel, you can learn about Buddhism from the Western layperson point-of-view, while still holding true to the Buddhist teachings, religion, and helping to understand the cultural jewels that exist.
I have been a Buddhist for decades and am a lay follower of Venerable Master Hsing Yun and Fo Guang Shan Buddhist order (Humanistic Buddhism/Mahayana). I have a background in graphic design, reporting, technical writing, decades as a teacher, and trying (sometimes successfully) to insert humor into otherwise dry and complicated subjects.

Happy Thanksgiving! For Buddhists, you can add a dash of Buddhism during the holiday. My rendition of the Metta (Loving-Kindness) prayer can be one you use when gathering, before a meal, etc.

The Five Aggregates is a fundamental and important teaching in Buddhism. After all, Buddhists are trying to remove the false belief in a permanent and unchanging "self". That belief causes us to go down a path of greed, anger, and ignorance (the three fires/poisons) that result in unwholesome karmic action.
But, this teaching can be very hard to understand...because our mind doesn't want us to! We are using all these Buddhist practices so we can cut through all the cloudy understanding and get to the truth. And then, liberation! (Nirvana).

Bhumisparsha mudra is a hand gesture that symbolizes Buddha’s enlightenment under the bodhi tree. It is also known as “earth touching gesture” or “earth witness” mudra and is one of the most famous mudras of the Buddha.
The Buddha did the Bhumisparsha mudra when he was meditating under a bodhi tree and faced temptation by Mara, the demon king. He touched the earth with his right hand to ask for its witness of his enlightenment. He also directed all the negative energy to the ground and gained wisdom.
