Remove all risks of your project going sideways from surprises by increasing its BUS FACTOR.

Bluntly, the bus factor is the number of people that can "get hit by a bus" before the project is in dire straits. You want to have as few single points of failure as possible.

Increasing this number isn't that hard - here are three ideas you can implement immediately in your current projects:

1. Reduce complexity. Bureaucracy isn't known for its efficiency. Let's ease off the additional approvals or meetings.
2. Documentation. Just write things down and share them, like events, meeting minutes, or changing requirements.
3 Training If "only Steve" can do a specific, important task, have Steve help someone else learn how to do it too.

You'll become bulletproof against surprises with a higher bus factor!

Are you giving your company the wrong incentive?

Being awesome at your job's tasks can harm your chances of finding new opportunities because your strength in the position outweighs your potential value in other places.

If you want others to find you, focus on developing soft skills and participating in high-visibility activities.

Busy, technical work gets you in the door but can quickly stifle your growth if left unbalanced by your other skills.

Projects are one or more tasks that have to get done for some reason.

Use this checklist to get a quick idea of how well your project is going, whether it started two years ago
or yesterday.
