This channel documents my full time indie dev journey, all the way from its beginning in 2018. I make a mixture of educational and entertaining game dev content.
Commercial indie games I released so far since starting this YT channel:
- ISLANDERS (as part of Grizzly Games)
- Will You Snail? (Solo project)
- Thronefall (Grizzly Games)
I'd be honored if you decide to stick around to see where the journey goes.

The WYS community turned my game Will You Snail into an animated movie with dozens of creative contributors. The whole thing was organized and orchestrated by RGC Exists. Testament to how passionate the community still is about the game. I feel absolutely honored by the fantastic effort! It premiers in about 2 hours. Come hang out. :)

CHANNEL DIRECTION - Where my mind is at.
Thought we'd quickly do one of these again so that you can better understand where I'm at with my thought process and so that you can give me feedback in the comments if you think I'm misaligned with what you want to see. :)
I'm still in an experimentation phase, trying out a few different things, seeing what sticks. I'm especially looking for formats I can do somewhat time efficiently as I want to invest the majority of my time into actual game development, not YouTube.
THE PODCAST / INTERVIEWS
I really like doing the podcasts, because not only are they fairly efficient to make, but they also teach me new things. They feel like they contribute to my own growth as a developer.
There are some problems, though. At the current schedule (weekly) they consume pretty much all of the time I reserved for YouTube stuff. It's a lot of content and some of you have even said that you struggle to keep up.
I think the logical conclusion would be to relax the schedule a lot, or to take a little break and continue with season 2 at another time.
Just to clarify, I got 2 more (fantastic!) interviews recorded already and 2 more scheduled to be recorded soon. I think you're gonna like them so we'll finish this batch, then try out some new things.
I don't think stopping the podcast altogether is the correct call at this point but I also don't think it should continue with its current schedule. Some kind of middle ground compromise on this would probably make the most sense.
REVIEW GUESSER
I see some potential in this format. Can probably get a couple of good videos out of it.
I'm trying to get a public repository up so you can all try it out, hopefully some time this weekend.
I learned that there are already 2-3 people who made this exact game before me, though not in exactly the same way. My video has also already inspired somebody else to make a ReviewGuesser chrome plugin and published it "officially" before I did.
I think that's all cool. I never intended to turn it into a product or anything of the sorts. Just wanted to make a cool thing for myself and the community, so I don't mind if you run with the idea at all. Will open-source mine asap so you can take it as a starting point to mod in all of the features you want.
SLIDE / PRESENTATION FORMAT
The two slide / presentation style videos I made recently did way outperform all the rest. This tells me you want more of me just talking about game dev things in a condensed format.
I think that totally makes sense. I also really enjoy making these, just need to make more room in my schedule to actually make them. So once the podcast schedule relaxes, I'll use the newly available time from that for more presentation style vids. We got a lot to talk about!
DEVLOGS
Paul and I started work on the new game, but it's super early and we're not really ready to reveal anything, yet. Very much looking forward to your feedback and to sharing this new journey with you, though! Devlog series is starting once we lock in a clear direction and vision for the game and once I have enough content for a full devlog.
YOUR FEEDBACK
Your feedback is always welcome. Be mean to me if you want.
My only ask is to please be kind to the guests I invite. One day you might make a cool game and I'll invite you to sit there and chat. I'm not deleting comments or anything of the sorts, that's not how I roll. I will just remind you that guests do read comments and they are just people the same way you are.
Please let me know if you have any thoughts about overall direction. Wanna align as best as I can with what you want to see from me. Cheers!

Is there even such a thing as good game dev advice?

3 Small Channel Updates
1) Paul and I started work on a new major game project. Still prototyping, still figuring out what exactly it'll be, but we think we found a promising direction. Devlogs will start with some delay (several months, once we've defined a clear direction for the project). Already looking forward to sharing more.
2) New podcast episode is out now. I interviewed my friends at Toukana, they made the banger Dorfromantik and recently teamed up with Kurzgesagt to make Star Birds. They tell their story and we theory craft about how to make successful indie games. Hope you enjoy!
3) Will keep experimenting with the upload schedule some more. Now that work on a new game project has begun my time is becoming more sparse again. Maybe something like aiming for slide-style videos on even weeks and podcasts on odd weeks could be maintainable while working on a game full time. Still trying to find something I can stick with consistently, but also already quite happy with how it's going. Can't make any concrete promises. We'll see what it settles on.
Cheers!

Small Channel Update
1) New Video Podcast is Out!
I talked to Philomena Schwab, who both makes AND publishes indie games as the co-founder of Stray Fawn Studio. She for example lead development for The Wandering Village or you might have also heard of their game Dungeon Clawler. She has both the developer and publisher perspective on things, which I found to be quite an interesting mixture. We talked about marketing, publishing and of course making successful games. Check it out.
2) Next Slide-Style Video
The "What Sells on Steam: You Don't Need a Hook" video is still coming. I got a bit ill so will wait till my voice has recovered some more before I record that.
3) Podcast Summaries
As mentioned, I'm in a bit of an experimentation phase right now. After making 2 podcast summaries, I gotta say they feel a bit like busy work and they also don't seem to do amazingly well. I think we're better off if I just make my own Slide-Style videos about the stuff I personally want to talk about. I can still occasionally reference interesting takeaways from the podcasts there.
Cheers!

I like the direction the YT channel is going. I feel like I reignited the spark a bit. Care less about views, make what I want to make, probably get more views doing so, lol. Not even sure the new direction "is it". Just knowing that I can change direction at any time is the liberating part for me right now. Happy you're on board.
