Stormbound guitars are unique handmade instruments made by myself, Micah Hughes. These instruments are inspired by a variety of traditional instruments and can be described as a mashup of a cigar box guitar and an erhu(two-stringed Chinese violin). The desire to add a fretboard to an erhu was an early driving force, as well as the experience of playing a fretted instrument with a bow. The re-occurring antler headstock feature lends itself to an aesthetic that easily appeals to Scandinavian or native/early American cultures. Various string types and body materials(wooden boxes, aluminum tins) can deliver a range of tones reminiscent of a dulcimer or banjo. Unconventional parts found at flea markets or craft stores and a disregard of traditional luthier's techniques help these guitars to sit well next to classic cigar box guitars and are sure to be an excellent addition to any collection.
