Since 1991, IJ has come to the aid of individuals who want to do the simple things every American has the right to do—including own property, start and grow a business, speak freely about commerce or politics, and provide their children with a good education—but can’t because they find the government in their way.
IJ combines litigation, media relations, strategic research, boots-on-the-ground advocacy and much more to fight on behalf of those individuals who are denied their constitutional rights. IJ is successful in winning over 70 percent of its cases in the court of law, in the court of public opinion or through legislative reforms. IJ has litigated over 446 cases, including twelve before the U.S. Supreme Court.
IJ has earned Charity Navigator’s top 4-star rating every year since 2001, which puts the Institute for Justice in the highest one percentile of the more than 9,000 nonprofits ranked each year by Charity Navigator.

Today we won!
“This is a victory for us but also for everyone who is fighting for accountability and justice,” said Trina Martin.
“This isn’t over, but we look forward to continuing the fight. What happened to us was wrong and should never happen to anyone. I’ve been praying constantly about our case, and it is amazing to have those prayers be heard.”
