On 22 August 2025, a state of famine was officially declared in Gaza. The United Nations, humanitarian agencies and human rights organisations had been sounding the alarm for months, accusing Israel of using famine as a weapon of war by deliberately starving the population of the Gaza Strip.



Benjamin Netanyahu's government complains of an anti-Semitic campaign against Israel orchestrated by Hamas, the UN and the international media.

With foreign journalists not permitted access to the Gaza Strip, ARTE commissioned a team of Palestinian journalists to record the brutal reality of extreme famine and the distribution of aid controlled by Israel during the summer months.

The situation forced the inhabitants of Gaza to make a terrible decision: starve to death or risk being killed in the search for food.

Across Europe, a concerning human trafficking phenomenon has emerged. 'Loverboys' – also known as romeo pimps – operate by trying to make young girls fall in love with them before using their influence to exploit them.

In France, nearly 20,000 teenage girls are said to be in the thrall of these 'loverboys', who are sometimes barely older than they are. With seduction and declarations of love, these young men emotionally manipulate their ‘girlfriends’ to use them as prostitutes.
