The Happiest Tapes on Earth was a mail order label catalog founded by Chuck Collison in 1987. Initially started as a project called "The Happiest Place on Earth", the name was changed to "The Happiest Tapes on Earth" to avoid potential legal problems with Disney whom at the time used the name as a slogan for their theme parks in the United States particularly in California and Florida. The label also served as a distributor for artists such as Shrilltower, Omwenne, Plecid, Bast and of course, Rozz Williams. Whom was friends with almost every artist on this label. The label closed it's doors and ceased sales in 1990 but a dedicated cult following has continued to keep interest in the label alive over the years. Not many releases by HTOE saw a re-release and the label has become a sort of mecca for music collectors.
