News and Analysis on the ongoing Game of Thrones / A Song of Ice & Fire franchise, books and TV series, including the prequels and spin offs, starting with House of the Dragon.
A lot of my focus is on researching what's going on behind-the-scenes: not just "reacting" to an episode or story elements, but investigating what the cast & crew reveal about how it was made. This extends to broader issues about "state of the industry" topics, which affect what projects get greenlit and which don't.
When I have time I also report on shows similar to Game of Thrones / House of the Dragon, the major competitors among "the most talked about TV and movie projects". Right now the only other one I'm going to try to report on is Amazon Prime's Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power prequel series, because I already know the books and backstory well enough that I don't need to re-read them, so I can make quick reactions off the top of my head.

I am aware that the recent EW article addressed the disagreement between Ryan Condal and GRRM. However I make it a point NOT to post videos on April Fool’s Day, so I haven’t reacted YET. Some project “shade” onto it - actually Condal was as diplomatic as he could be. We could read more into that…but he wasn’t “objectively” insulting - same tone he’s had since September (ack, seven months of this).
Generally I’ve seen the same reactions from other channel creators on social media: they’re both right in several ways, and though Martin (and many of us) disagree with some of Condal’s decisions,
1 - we still respect Condal as a professional and hope he and Martin can reach some understanding
2 - despite legitimate criticisms, trolls and hype fans latched into other things which were BEYOND Condal’s control, and I’ll be damned if I join them. “Sara Hess is the devil, eats dogs, and is the new Kathleen Kennedy” is a SIMPLISTIC answer easier to embrace than “a complex overlap of factors converged all at once, including the writers strike, budget cuts, and yes, also some disagreements about where the story is going in UPCOMING seasons.”
Yes, I do worry. But we need measured responses not toxic fandom kneejerk bashing [ violently flips over table, brandishes a sword, then in a calm cold voice] Because that would LOWER us.
Moreover it deflects from the real problems and thus real solutions.
So I’m working on a video for later this week: hey, at least after SEVEN months in the dark this is finally in public discourse again, instead of avoiding the elephant in the room.
In the meantime I loaded THREE videos yesterday (2 normal, one long bonus podcast), overstacking so you guys would have stuff to watch that wasn’t technically released on April Fool’s Day.
