Just GAVE AWAY the 1928 Ford Model A 4-door Phaeton!! This car was donated by the Mills' specifically to raise funds for the MAFFI Museum. We raised over $93,000!
Thank you to the Model A Ford Foundation Inc. (MAFFI) for the incredible Model A Days event. Everyone had a great time. The museum shop area (excuse me, "Learning Center") expansion turned out great! Looking forward to possibly doing a seminar there one day. Question- Would anyone show up if I put on a seminar in the MAFFI Learning Center? If so, what should the topic be?
Today begins the month of May...and... May is Model A Youth month!! This coming Saturday's video (I hid a Star Wars day shoutout in it somewhere) is a real treat including a collaboration with a 10 year old YouTuber who will demonstrate how to access a Model A rumble seat. Invite a kid into your Model A this month, and drive it like you know how to fix it!
Here is David Rose with the Model A Youth Restoration Award program talking about MAYRA. I used some of this in the upcoming Saturday video.
Tina's new video today features Steve Mitchell from Mitchell Manufacturing. About 20 minutes into the video, Steve discusses using spacers at the ends of the shift rail to limit how far the shifter can travel, eliminating the possibility of shifting past the detents, so that it is nearly impossible to break the shift forks when shifting aggressively. What do you think of that idea? Steve sells the spacers by themselves, is it worth it?
Motor Trend has published on YouTube a portion of the episode of Roadworthy Rescues I filmed with Derek Bieri (Vice Grip Garage) in Detroit last year!! This car was neglected for 60 years until we got hold of it. Derek and I made it run, look pretty (well sorta) and drove it through Detroit to the Ford Highland Park plant where we explored, and even stood in Henry Ford's office. No kidding, this was the best week of my life!
Attending Model A Days at the MAFFI museum here in Michigan. The Gilmore just published a video talking about the beautiful ground here- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3_H7...
Tomorrow morning, we will be broadcasting LIVE from the MAFFI Model A museum!! If the technology doesn't fail... See you tomorrow!!
A tankfull of bad gas halted the mail truck while on our way to the Motherlode Roundup Parade Saturday morning. It turned to slime! The fuel system was full of it. Once I figured out the problem, I knew we had to flush the fuel system and unclog everything and put new gas before driving it again, so we called AAA for a tow. AAA informed me that they will not provide service for a "commercial vehicle". I explained over and over that our 1929 Model A mail truck is privately owned, and is registered as an SUV. They flat out refused, and left us stranded. Literally! A 93 year old man and I left on the side of highway 108. They couldn't care less.
Shout out to Vic's Towing of Sonora- I called Vic's directly and Ronnie came and got us. Was very nice, and super helpful (we paid cash). Good job Ronnie and Vic's Towing!! As for AAA, remind me, why do I pay them every year??? Rethinking AAA membership right now.
UPDATE- Brought the mail truck home last weekend, so it is no longer on display at the museum. Sorry about that. Look for a video on bringing it home coming soon!
