Judging by comments it seems a lot of HPS growers think the HPS spectrum is unique.
.
However there is little difference between LED and HPS spectrum other than a higher percentage blue in the white LED spectrum.
.
Both have a small amount of UVA and Far red. In fact with LED you can add more UVA and Far red than HPS by simply adding UVA and far reds LEDs.
.
HPS has more Infra red radiation (heat radiation) which is 780nm and above. This is not photosynthetically active but will add heat to the upper canopy. This will heat the upper buds to more than room temperature. This has been proven to cause secondary metabolites such as cannabinoids and terpenes to evaporate therefore reducing potency of the harvest.

I am looking into the ongoing discussion on LED vs HPS harvest quality. It seems some strains may perform better under HPS spectrum. However I can see no test data proving this. Does anyone know of published test data for cannabinoids and terpene profiles for strains grown under LED and HPS in controlled test?
