2 TYPES OF FALSE GOOD REPS

There are many reasons judges don't give truthful judging. Even though they're not corrupt or partaking in a conflict of interest, judges can give good reps for other reasons besides it actually being a good rep. There are 2 "types" of false good reps from what I've seen: "sympathy reps" and "negative-reaction reps" (both terms made up for labeling purposes).

*Sympathy reps* are attempts judged as good lifts because the judge feels some kind of sympathy or emotion towards the athlete. Whether this is related to the athlete grinding hard to complete the rep, being a beginner, on the verge of getting DQ'd, or even being a woman, a judge that cannot control his/her emotions will give sympathy reps because the judge "feels bad."

Things like "I can't give a no rep to that athlete, that athlete went through X" or "that athlete is just a girl" or "that athlete worked hard for it and put in pain" are the different ways judges cover up their false decision.

*Negative-reaction reps* are reps judged as good lifts because the judge anticipates a negative reaction from the athlete and/or his support if the judge gives a no lift, despite the no rep being the correct call. These decisions are usually seen from judges judging a high-profile athlete or athletes that have shown a lack of self-accountability.

Both of these types of false good reps can happen because there is emotion attached to the athlete from the judge. Judges may view an athlete a certain way or expect a negative reaction based on a decision which can affect the judge's ability to give truthful judging. Best way to address this is to remain detached.

DRUG TESTING

If you were to decide the protocols for drug testing, what would you do to prioritize cost efficiency while maximizing chances of catching a PED user? Polygraph test? Urine test? Blood test? Align with WADA? How frequently would you test an athlete?

IPF BAN

What is your opinion on the IPF's recent banning of stiff knee sleeves? Do you think the same should happen in streetlifting? And if so, should they also ban stiff elbow sleeves?

JUDGING INTEGRITY

How do you ensure that your judges aren't corrupt and are capable of being objective?

This is a big problem in many sports where judges make CLEAR incorrect calls to boost ratings, win a gamble/stake, show favoritism, or because they fear what may happen if they do make the correct call.

Crowds and audiences can influence a judge's decision greatly if they do not have any emotional discipline.

What's the solution (in streetlifting)?

1) Understand that certain people cannot and never will be objective. They do not have a moral and ethical compass and/or are undisciplined. Come up with a thorough procedure to filter these people out.

2) React immediately if there's clear evidence of subjective judging. The role of a judge can easily lose the trust of the athletes and community if this happens.

3) Use video replays and a jury for quality control.

What else can we do to ensure the sport's integrity remains intact?
