#ThrowbackThursday | DNALC Nigeria Summer Professional Course

Today, we rewind to one of the standout innovations from our August Summer Professional Course, the brilliant work of Group B (Bio-Food) on “Recombinant Bacteriocin Production for Natural Food Preservation.”

Tackling Nigeria’s major challenge of food spoilage, the team explored how bacteriocins, natural antimicrobials from friendly bacteria—can be genetically enhanced using recombinant DNA technology to provide safer, more powerful, and more sustainable food preservation solutions.

Their presentation highlighted how recombinant bacteriocins could
✨ Extend shelf life naturally
✨ Replace chemical preservatives
✨ Improve food safety
✨ Support Nigeria’s food industry with cost-effective biotechnology
A forward-thinking project that proves how young scientists can solve real national problems through innovation.

Proud of the creativity and scientific curiosity of our students!
