Rest in peace reggae legend Jimmy Cliff (1944-2025). Cliff famously starred in the Jamaican crime film The Harder They Come. The film's soundtrack, which featured original songs recorded by Cliff, is widely credited with exposing North American audiences to the music of Jamaica. As we remember Cliff, here's a brief interview with The Harder They Come's director Perry Henzell, interspersed with footage of Cliff taken during the soundtrack's recording sessions.

Happy Halloween! Tod Browning's 1927 vampire film London After Midnight is amongst the most elusive lost relics of the silent era. Surviving stills from the production showcase actor Lon Chaney in costume as the sinister "Man in the Beaver Hat". Although London After Midnight remains lost as of yet, this home movie footage survives as the only extant moving image of the Man in the Beaver Hat character - recreated by fans of the film in 1928.

On September 29, 1954, in Game 1 of the World Series at the Polo Grounds, New York Giants center fielder Willie Mays made his iconic "The Catch." Mays made a running, over-the-shoulder grab of a deep fly ball hit by Vic Wertz of the Cleveland Indians. This play, considered one of baseball's most famous, helped the Giants secure a 5-2 extra-inning victory and ultimately sweep the series in four games.

September 22nd marks the 40th anniversary of Farm Aid. The inaugural 1985 event was hosted by Willie Nelson, Neil Young, and John Mellencamp and featured a star-studded lineup of over 60 artists, including Bob Dylan, Billy Joel, and Johnny Cash, and drew a crowd of 80,000 people, raising over $7 million for farmers. The annual festival continues to raise awareness about the struggles family farmers face and supports community based land efforts. Historic Films can make available clips of many of the performers from the era, including this one of Willie Nelson from 1983.
