Mechanical Engineering Department is one of the oldest departments of the institute which was established in 1980. It is also one of the largest in terms of faculty, students, and activities, continues to lead and expand its activities in various directions. The department offers B.Tech. M.Tech. and Ph.D. programs with a wide choice of specializations, electives and research areas. The department was accredited four times by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and was recognised as research centre by the Andhra University and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada (JNTUK). The Department has 52 faculty members: 9 Professors, 7 Associate Professors, 36 Assistant Professors and 21 supporting staff. The department is having highly qualified and experienced faculty in all streams of Mechanical Engineering. About 27 % of the faculty members have doctoral degrees and the rest are pursuing their Ph.Ds.
