Hello there. I'm Drew. When I'm not driving taxi in the city of Bangor Maine, I enjoy exploring various abandoned properties all over the state, mostly focussing on old mining operations but include pretty much any former industrial activity and things like old farms and historic sites. I think what I do falls under urban archaeology despite it being out in the country most of the time. When I have the time, I like to metal detect. If you go back far enough, you'll find some interesting explorations around Yosemite National Park in California. Anything else tends to be slice of life anecdotes as a taxi driver. As of now, my schedule for postings is every Wednesday at 5pm EST.

In the playlist I have a lot of older material, such as musical canons and classical music in general, poetry, history, railroads, general science topics, nature, anti-libertarian thoughts, Franklin Roosevelt, archaeology, and random things that happen to me.

Abandoned Maine

This old church in Durham is connected with a very strange cult from the turn of the last century that is connected with the current religious strife in Israel. Stay tuned.

So my visit to the "ghost town" of Lakeview didn't go as planned. At first I thought that the rain would prevent me from looking around, but shortly after it stopped. While a few people live there now, the remains of the old factory are still there in the woods, so I got plenty of footage. In addition, 6 other locations are viable candidates for ghost town videos, and one will require a boat because its on an island. My friend has warned me of an abandoned airfield on a small island off Mt. Desert Island which would be fun to go investigate in addition to a few abandoned quarries on a nearby island. I hope he can borrow a motorboat that will let us get there. Potential visit to an abandoned logging railroad up by Sebec Lake up north of Dover Foxcroft now that things are drying up.

Abandoned Maine

With the weather improving and Covid on the wane, I have some upcoming projects. One, finish the Loring Air force base videos, and two, investigate a ghost town in Somerset county along with it's slate quarry, a long abandoned local baseball field, and the Acton mines, a 19th century string of 10 or 11 shafts that were minor producers. In May I'll be giving a speech to the Bath historical society on Franklin Roosevelt and the New Deal. Might be the possibility of returning to Loring to get the parts that my sister and I missed, a radar base and the weapons/nuke storage area. Stay tuned.

Success at locating an old gold mine in Western Maine that isn't listed on any of the mining websites. The owner of the property asked that I not say where it is due to a recent drowning so as to not bring attention and increase his liability. The background of the mine is a classic story from the mining boom of the late 1880's and I've got lots of details. Stay tuned.

Thanks to the recommendation of a viewer, I explored what remains of the Cascade Woolen Mill in Oakland Maine. Lots of gross stuff to look at in this one.

Yesterday, my sister and I explored what remains of former Loring Air Force Base in Limestone Maine. She was stationed there in the late 1970s and was my tour guide of the various buildings and told a few anecdotes of her time there. 20 percent of the base is still in use while most of the buildings are unused and in various states of decay or victims of vandalism.
