Jools’ musical education started as a choral scholar at St Paul’s Cathedral where he performed alongside the likes of Evelyn Glennie and Sir Simon Rattle.
‘Vice - a jazz opera' was written in collaboration with Sue Curtis. The première was at the Arcola Theatre as part of Grimeborn 2010, followed by a workshop at the Soho Theatre in 2010 and Birkbeck University in 2014. The première of 'Demon Lover', Jools' second opera, took place at Grimeborn 2011.
Jools has written music for two Motion Group Pictures short films. The first film was 'Sparrow' in 2010 followed by 'The Door' in 2011. The music for 'The Door' was recorded by members of the Brodsky Quartet.
Jools scored the music for ‘Off Beat‘ (Aardman‘s 1st HD short), ‘Boxed In‘ (BAFTA New Talent nominated) & co-composed BAFTA-winning director Mikey Please‘s ‘Marilyn Myller‘ (Sundance 2014 Official Selection).
'The Cool Web' is a new oratorio for baritone, choir & chamber ensemble based on the WW1 poems of Robert Graves.
