District energy is one of the reasons Josh Culling bought his new near-net-zero home in Blatchford, the largest planned carbon-neutral community in North America. It's hard to believe but as Josh sits on a park bench with the sounds of geese in the background he's right in the core of the City where the Blatchford green community is being developed on former airport lands with room for 30,000 people to live a very sustainable lifestyle. 
Blatchford has a geoexchange (geothermal) district heating system, a green building code and some of the most efficient home's money can buy.

Raymond Alberta was told solar wouldn't work on the buildings in their small town in southern Alberta, so they asked a different consultant, put solar everywhere and became the first community in Canada to reach net-zero electricity. Oh and the economics worked out quite well too.
