HOW to visit ALL 3 of Washington’s National Parks in one trip? 👇
🛑 Hit FOLLOW for National Park tips, itineraries, and hidden gems.
👋 Hi! We’re Katie & Joe. In 2023, we left the corporate grind to visit all 63 U.S. National Parks. We’ve made it to 45 so far and Washington’s three are some of the most diverse and breathtaking you’ll find anywhere.
⏰ How long should you budget? We road-tripped the loop in our camper van in about 4–5 days, but if you have the time, we recommend at least 3 days in each park. There’s so much to see that rushing it won’t do them justice.
🗒️ Things to Remember: these parks cover dramatically different ecosystems, from alpine peaks to wild coastlines to temperate rainforest. Pack layers and be ready for everything from snow to sun to heavy rain… sometimes in the same day.
🌦 Timing matters: late summer (July–September) is the sweet spot. Snow has melted from high-elevation trails like Skyline and Maple Pass, roads are fully open, and coastal sunsets are unforgettable.
🚐 Travel Logistics: driving between all three parks is totally doable. The loop starts in Seattle, heads north to North Cascades, west to Olympic (with plenty of side quests), and south to Mount Rainier. Expect scenic highways, mountain passes, and charming small towns along the way.
🎟️ Don’t forget: some trails and areas require reservations or timed entry, and parking lots at popular trailheads fill early. Start your days ahead of the crowds for the best experience.
Here are some of our favorite highlights from Washington’s National Parks + side quests:
⛰ Mount Rainier: Skyline Trail to Panorama Point + Sunrise Corridor views 🏞 North Cascades: Diablo Lake Overlook + Maple Pass Loop 🌲 Olympic: Hurricane Ridge, Sol Duc Falls, Rialto Beach, and the Hoh Rain Forest 📖 Side Quests: Forks (Twilight fame), Cape Flattery at the northwesternmost point of the U.S.
In honor of World Photography Day, we shared 2 new reels with our favorite photos from Katmai National Park. These might be our best photos ever. Go take a look! www.instagram.com/katieandjoeonthego/
If you love National Parks, couple travel, van life adventures—and a little international travel sprinkled in—we’d be honored to have you join us for the ride.

What’s it like experiencing Portugal through a Viking River Cruise? 🇵🇹
If you want to see what a Viking River Cruise through the Douro Valley is really like — from squeezing through massive locks to learning how to make Pastel de Nata (Portugal’s most famous dessert) and discovering my new favorite drink (a Port & Tonic) — check out yesterday’s vlog (the post right before this one).
These are a few favorite frames from Day 4 of Viking’s Portugal’s River of Gold itinerary — and it was another full, unforgettable day.
🏰 We spent the afternoon exploring Castelo Rodrigo — a quiet hilltop village dating back to 500 BC. I ditched the group and wandered solo through cobblestone streets, tried to befriend a few locals (all cats), and soaked up centuries of history.
🚶♀️ After dinner, my mom and I walked all the way to Spain. Okay, technically it was a 15-minute walk along the train tracks — but a border crossing felt like the perfect way to end the day.
The full Day 4 vlog is now live — and if you’ve ever wondered whether a Viking River Cruise is slow or “just for retirees,” this series might surprise you.
👉 Save this for your future Viking River Cruise

If you’re curious about slow travel, river cruises, or what it’s like to be a 30-something on a trip where the average age is 70 😂, this one’s for you.
Dreaming of the ULTIMATE USA road trip? We mapped it out for you! From Joshua Trees to Acadia, this route hits EVERY National Park in the Lower 48 states.

Our first group trip was to Alaska this summer — we hosted 15 friends and family (and no one got eaten 😅🐻) and we consider that a success!
Now that we’ve got that under our belt… we’re opening it up to YOU! 🙌
We’re planning our first official 2026 group trip and need your help!
Take our 2-min quiz on @trovatrip to tell us what kind of trip you’d want — hiking in a National Park? Food tour in France? The options are endless!
