Jessie Gender After Dark

After Dark is my channel where I just geek out about the all the nerdy things that I love, while still trying to create a space that tries to be welcoming to everyone but especially those from marginalized communities that sometimes get overlooked in fandoms. Here is where I’m going to do trailer reactions, tv and movie and episode reviews, lists and rankings like of Star Trek captains by sexinessness, book reviews, fandom speculation, news breakdowns, and even more. I tend to have a focus on science fiction, fantasy and horror, with a specific love of Star Trek, but I also just love all movies and tv shows in general, so I’m sure we’ll touch on all of that here. After Dark is just the place where I and all of us get to geek out with other lovely people. And I do at least one video a week right here, with likely me doing even more, especially if there’s a tv show or movie that I’m really excited about.

Hey all. Quick FYI: I’m traveling to visit family and meet my newly born nephew for the first time this weekend! So my reviews of this weeks Doctor Who and Last of Us are going to be delayed until next week! ❤️❤️❤️

Hey all! So BIG NEWS! The first of THREE amazing off-YouTube projects I'm working on this year has officially been announced! I'm going to be assistant directing and producer a trans-focused scifi short film that is being directed by Susan and Tilly Bridges - a queer (and half trans) amazing writing duo who has worked on Star Trek Prodigy and Monster High! The film is also being produced by my friend and fellow IDENTITEAZE producer, Dr. Erin Macdonald, whom many of you also may know from her work on Star Trek! It's going to be an amazing, uplifting scifi story focused on trans healing and care - something I think we desperately need right now. Its a really personal project for Susan and Tilly and I'm honored to be part of the crew bringing it to life. We have JUST lunched a crowdfunding campaign to get it funded, so if you want to help make this film a reality, please consider checking out the link below and supporting! seedandspark.com/fund/long-away#story

Hey all, my apologies, but there's not gonna be a review of Severance this week. I'm behind on a bunch of projects and I'm also feeling a bit exhausted. I'll review both episodes next week, but I need to slow down on some stuff so I don't burn myself out. <3 Hope you're taking care y'all.

So, out of sheer coincidence, there's a good chance I'll be attending this performance at Second City in New York on Saturday with Tawyn Newsom and Eugene Cordero. But even if I can't - it's an amazing chance to see two of the funniest people in Star Trek and out of it. I adore Tawny; she's been one of the kindest and warmest people I've ever met in the film industry - while also being a fighter for everyone and hilariously creative. I've only met Eugene in passing, but he also seems like an absolutely amazing human being. If you're in the area, y'all should come to see it to support them and have a great time (and also probably destress after what is going to be an awful week, I'm sure, given... well, you know) and maybe even meet me if I'm able to get out! - www.secondcity.com/shows/new-york/newsome-and-cord…

Hey, you got some fantasy in my science fiction! Galen and the crew of Excaliber face off against a dragon and a wizard on a back-water planet in what is perhaps Crusade's most Star Trek episode yet - councilofgeeks.libsyn.com/jumpgate-117-crusade-the…

Its time for some HOTD!! Last season, I reviewed House of the Dragon here on this channel, but between all the shows coming out right now as well as my own film IDENTITEAZE coming out next week, I sadly don't have time to do that. BUT, don't worry, I was actually honored to have been asked to be a co-host on the Cast of Kings podcast with the wonderful David Chen and Kim Renfro, who literally wrote the book on Westeros on TV. It's been really awesome chatting with them and I'm looking forward to doing so all season long! So if you want to join, and also hear me maybe nerd out about the... lets just say "strange" changes from the FIRE AND BLOOD book, hope on over ya nerds! Also, Team Black all the way! podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/a-cast-of-kings-a-ho…

Hey all! So, apologies, but there's not going to be a Star Trek Discovery Retro Review this week. I was hoping to get to it this week; I even wrote the script, but I've been so busy in post-production for my film IDENTITEAZE as we're nearing finalizing everything that I just haven't had time! I'll be back next week hopefully tho! Until then; enjoy Captain Lorca giving some shade.

Hey all! I was honored to appear on the HRTea podcast this week to talk about handle hate, finding hope as a queer person, and more. I honestly loved this conversation so give it a watch if you have the time <3

I Dune 2 last night and absolutely loved it overall. It's nice to see some big-budget science fiction with rich themes doing WELL at the box office for once. I loved Denis Villeneuve even more for clearly understanding that the story is not only against imperialism, but a refutation of "hero's journey" type stories of a savior coming to rescue us. Yet, Dune's numerous adaptations, Dune 2 included, still wrestle with many Western assumptions and representations of its Arab-coded characters and themes. I'd highly recommend my friend ‪@nassattack‬'s FANTASTIC video below where she talks about her favorite book Dune; and the issues with its adaptations on depicting the Fremen. Please go support her work!

NEW VIDEO AVAILABLE ON PATREON! In the early 2000s, William Shatner made one of the most cursed reality series ever, revealing some of Hollywood's darkest issues. I'm SO excited for you all to see this one. This started off as a frivolous video that became so much bigger. The more Aranock and I looked into this forgotten Shatner reality series, the more interesting it became. This is a story about abuse, celebrity culture, power, toxic work environments, William Shatner's career, and much more. It's a look into some of the darkest parts of our society that we want to look away from and how, even there, humanity can be found. If you can, consider signing up over on Patreon to see it a week early. The support is also deeply appreciated and really means a lot, especially now. Also; this will have an exclusive supplemental video coming later this week.

But I hope you all are doing good regardless <3 Excited to hear all your thoughts on this one!
