Similarly, in the 1970s, punk culture gave rise to concepts such as goth and emo. Inheriting the protest from folk music, rock also quickly became associated with political issues, especially those related to changing social attitudes about race, gender, and drug use, and was often seen as a youthful protest against consumerism and indulgence.
