Many cyclists over 40 find themselves riding more each year but not getting leaner or stronger. Weight loss stalls, FTP plateaus, and fatigue creeps in. This channel shows you a smarter way to train.
I’m Neil Damerell (MSc), a cycling performance and weight-loss coach helping busy cyclists over 40 get leaner, stronger, and faster without spending endless hours on the bike.
Here you’ll learn how to:
• Lose body fat without losing power
• Increase FTP and climbing ability
• Train effectively in 5–7 hours per week
• Fuel rides for better recovery and performance
• Build strength to stay fit and ride strong into your 50s and beyond
Using the Cycle Lean Method, cyclists I coach regularly achieve 4–6kg weight loss and 20–50 watt FTP gains, while improving endurance and energy.
If you’re a cyclist over 40 wanting to ride stronger, leaner, and perform better, you’re in the right place.

Most cyclists think they need 10+ hours a week to get fitter… and that’s exactly why they burn out before they see real results.
Here’s the reality I’ve seen coaching riders over 40 👇
This client didn’t overhaul their life.
They didn’t start training like a pro.
They didn’t sacrifice family time.
Instead, we focused on:
• Training that actually fits around real life
• Knowing when to push… and when to hold back
• Building consistency without burnout
And the result?
PBs on most rides.
More left in the tank.
Actually enjoying the process.
That’s what happens when your training works with your lifestyle, not against it.
You don’t need more hours.
You need a better plan.
If you want to get fitter, leaner, and start hitting PBs without living on your bike…

I see this all the time.
Cyclist over 40, riding 8-10 hours a week, eating pretty well, and the scales haven't moved in months.
They think they need to ride more. Or eat less. Or just try harder.
But that's not the problem.
After 40 your body genuinely works differently. Hormones shift, recovery slows down, and piling on more kilometres actually raises cortisol — which makes your body hold onto fat, not burn it.
I spent years watching riders spin their wheels (literally) doing more of what wasn't working.
The ones who actually got lean? They trained smarter, not longer. They sorted their fuelling. And they added strength work.
Swipe through to see exactly what I mean.
And if it resonates, DM me the word LEAN and I'll show you how I help cyclists over 40 actually make this work. 👇

You're over 40. You've got the passion for cycling. The goals are crystal clear. But between work deadlines, family demands, and a metabolism that's not what it used to be, something's gotta give.
Most cyclists over 40 feel stuck. Heavier than they want to be. Weaker on the climbs. Too burned out to fix it.
Generic training plans don't work for you. You're not a 25-year-old with unlimited time. You need cycling-specific strength training. You need nutrition that actually fits your life — not some one-size-fits-all diet nonsense. And you need recovery strategies that don't require a PhD to understand.
That's exactly why our Cycle Lean Project members are losing 6-12 kg in 12 weeks without losing power. They're climbing faster and stronger. Training just 4–5 hours per week. And keeping their sanity and family time intact.
They didn't overhaul their entire lives. They got smarter about their time.
It's not about grinding harder. It's about training right.

Think you need to ride for hours this winter to stay lean?
Think again 👇
Most cyclists fall into the base mile trap.
Long, slow rides. Turbo burnout.
And still… they gain weight.
Why?
Because time on the bike doesn’t equal fat loss.
What actually works?
✅ Smart structure✅ Strength work✅ Proper fuelling✅ Staying consistent — not flogging yourself
That’s exactly what we do inside the Cycle Lean Project —
An 8-week group coaching programme for cyclists over 40 who want to lose weight, ride stronger, and stay lean this winter.
Starts Sept 15
