In the midst of his busy schedule treating patients and training surgeons from around the world, he finds time to continue to lead a team of engineers and researchers to press on with further innovation and development.

Derek McMinn has gone on to develop and introduce the Birmingham Mid Head resection (BMHR) a bone conserving treatment option for patients, who's anatomy deems them unsuitable for the BHR. The Birmingham Knee Replacement (BKR) is another of Derek McMinn's implant designs.
