We want to thank you for all the “windoor” suggestions. Still formulating our solution but note that the original owners designed all the windows to open inward (and the shutters to open outward), so the upper inside edge of the bottom door portion had to be routed out. This is what allows the windows to open first, which is ideal, but also they will open inward - which is a little funny - but it’s something we can’t change. Hope that helps clarify why our “windoor” puzzle has unfolded the way it has 🤪
