In May of 2022, I found myself backstage at a gala in Boston, warming up alongside an intimidatingly good brass quartet. I had met a few members of The Westerlies in passing in NYC, but we didn’t make music together until this event, when I jumped into their gorgeous version of the folk song Weeping Mary. I think we all learned the song from the peerless Sam Amidon, and here it is, reimagined by The Westerlies and yours truly, and recorded by Mark Goodell in Brooklyn. It is a huge honor to be featured on this release- I love playing music with these humans. 🖤🖤🖤

Our new album 'Wild and Clear and Blue' is out now! 🩵

We wrote this album thinking about growing up so in love with music and then actually making music ourselves—there’s something universal about having those childhood memories tied up in the music your parents played for you.

Wild and Clear and Blue was recorded at two separate New York studios (The Outlier Inn in the Catskills and The Clubhouse in Rhinebeck), Wild and Clear and Blue takes its title from a song written after the passing of two of our most beloved musical forebears, Nanci Griffith and John Prine.

When I was nine my mom took me to see Nanci Griffith and I sent a note backstage requesting "Ford Econoline" and she played it at the show. We wrote Wild and Clear and Blue thinking about growing up so in love with music and then actually making music ourselves—it’s very specific to our own lives, but I think there’s something universal about having those childhood memories tied up in the music your parents played for you.

I’m so inspired by my friend Stephanie… she has been a hardworking professional musician since her teens, and brings so much to the table. Such a great groove on the keys, a warm and beautiful voice, and huge buoyant infectious good energy. This is her first project of original music and it slaps. I got to watch her present the songs last night in a sunny garden surrounded by family and friends and children and dogs and damn, it moved me. Check this music out, y’all.

(Fun fact: this EP was made with Meredith who was the assistant engineer on All My Friends)
