In southern Spain, photographer Ángel Hidalgo captured the world’s first known white Iberian lynx — a cat so rare it was once thought almost mythical.
The animal’s pale coat is caused by leucism, a rare genetic condition that lightens fur pigmentation. Just 20 years ago, fewer than 100 Iberian lynxes remained in the wild — today, the species is making a cautious comeback.
Astronomers have discovered a black hole about 450,000 times the mass of the Sun inside Segue 1, one of the Milky Way’s faintest dwarf galaxies, located 75,000 light-years away.
On November 5, the Beaver Full Moon will reach peak illumination, according to the U.S. Naval Observatory.
This will also be a supermoon, when our natural satellite comes closest to Earth in its elliptical orbit — making it the largest and brightest full moon of 2025.
On November 3, 1957, the Soviet Union launched Sputnik 2, carrying Laika, a stray dog from Moscow — the first living creature ever sent into orbit.
Laika’s mission proved that life could survive spaceflight, paving the way for human space exploration. Although she did not return, her flight marked a turning point in the history of space science and remains one of its most poignant milestones.
Orbiting high above Earth, the International Space Station spans 109 meters (358 feet) and serves as both home and laboratory for astronauts from around the world.
